Re: Tax Loss Harvest -- options/advice

If you look at the holdings of VUSTX and VGLT on yahoo finance or similar, the portfolio composition is different both in the % of the portfolio that is bonds, and the maturity of the bonds they hold. The IRS would be hard pressed to make a case that they were substantially identical. This is even t...

I think what you are referring to are Harbor Bond (HABDX), and Managers Fremont Bond (MBDFX)

Re: 30% to 75% Monthly Returns

Some even get disability for conditions they've brought on themselves, like adult-onset diabetes stemming from a terrible diet. So they're contributing to the problem of a smaller pool of workers contributing to the funds available for the payees. [...] That's sort of a bigger question: How respons...

Re: Permanent Portfolio Shakedown part 2

The other issue is the psychology.  As the pot of money grows larger and larger, are you going to be willing to trade in and out your entire (say, gold) holding based on this signal?  For a while I seriously thought half PP and half IVY might make sense (over the last 30 years they show similar ris...

Re: How to Stop Hospitals From Killing Us

Transparency would be a huge step in reform. So would tort reform. But since the people who make the laws are lawyers, I don't see that happening any time soon [apologies to MT, no offense to your profession intended] I certainly use Yelp and whatever else review site I can find before I choose a p...

Re: Rebalancing "Flow" between Taxable and Non-Taxable Accounts

I don't want to make my investing decisions based on speculations about what a bunch of the world's stupidest people might do in the future. LOL. Sad, but true. Regardless of what Congress does or doesn't do, your bond interest will be taxed at your marginal tax rate. Wouldn't that be at least part...

Re: When Will Iran Be Attacked?

Again, what kind of violence is it? Would Israel's attack on Iran's nuclear facility remind you of the IRA, or would it be closer to a defensive strike? There's a very good reason for this high standard: it's to prevent pre-emptive violence that didn't actually pre-empt anything at all because the ...

Yea, sorry. p. 50 of semiannual report for VGLT.  "At February 29, 2012, one shareholder was the record or beneficial owner of 36% of the fund’s net assets. If the shareholder were to redeem its total investment in the fund, the redemption might result in an increase in the fund’s expense ratio, ca...

Isn't that mix close to PRPFX? Cuggino has only half of the 'equity' portion of the portfolio [15%] in stocks, with the other half [15%] of the 'equities' in REIT and natural resources. It's REITs and natural resource company stocks , such as oil and gas, gold miners, coal miners and timber compani...
