Re: Come into my Parler

The app has all the same vulnerabilities that you mention, but worse. You have no way to know whether the app is validating the server's certificate at all, for example.

Re: Come into my Parler

In general, anything that can be done via browser (particularly on the phone) as opposed to with an app should be. Running an app puts you more-or-less completely at the mercy of the app developer. The browser has a LOT of safeguards to protect your privacy.

Re: Opting out of Politics, My Reasons

The forum used to be more politically diverse, and flames weren't part of the equation. Not sure just what the magic was. Maybe a lot of it is selective memory.

Re: The issue of diversity

Why are upper middle class and middle class neighborhoods generally not diverse? I think you're falling for the extremely simplistic definition of "diversity". Middle-class and upper-middle-class neighborhoods are generally QUITE diverse: that's where a huge chunk of Indian (subcontinental) and eas...

Re: The issue of diversity

Your posts leave no doubt whatsoever that you detest diversity. Why do people keep promoting the virtues of diversity when it is so evident that they hate it? According to Alinsky, it's all about gaslighting. It's a political weapon; no principle--or even reality--involved. No, I love diversity. I ...

Re: Censorship continued: first the Parler app then @realDonaldTrump

Seriously, you guys have nothing to say on this topic except that the "apps" have problems? We're buying more and more into closed ecosystems controlled by single entities. Without that, the censorship you're seeing couldn't take place. Without that, the censorship you're seeing will require limiti...

Re: Censorship continued: first the Parler app then @realDonaldTrump

It is a major mistake to route communications through such companies. The Internet was designed to avoid exactly that. And now we're just willingly giving it up. Also, it certainly is a freedom of speech issue. The government is the only entity REQUIRED to honor my freedom of speech. But it certainl...

I'd also like to point out that the closed nature of "app stores" is a major problem. Notice how the open world of the web is unaffected.

Anything that can be done via standards at by not routing through a central company really should be. Only install apps when you absolutely have to.
