Re: Cinco de Mayo Bicentennial

I thought I'd negotiated a good deal on my new 2012 Volvo XC60. Almost at the last minute I asked if Costco buying service would give me a better deal. The salesman said, no worries, we will take an additional $500 off without you having to start over with Costco. :o Guess my negotiating skills were...

I'm sorry for the loss of your mother, jhogue. It is not easy to lose a close family member, especially a parent.

Re: Notre Dame

I hope connections to the other churches burned in France since the mass immigration are not found. I'm assuming we're all in agreement that the truth should be found, whatever it is. I'm all for hoping it was an accident. From everything I'm hearing, that seems to be the story. If that isn't the c...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

What do we do when Jesus refuses to do the miracles we want - when He won't speak - when we are face to face with a silent God? We can do what Herod did - reject, mock, and send Jesus away. Or, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can humble ourselves and trust in Him, knowing that He will do what i...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

There are two basic themes in Holy Scripture. One is called the Law and one is called the Gospel. Both are from God and both are holy, both are necessary, and both are needed. The Law always focuses on the action or inaction of a person. It makes demands in the form of commands regarding what to do ...

Re: Climate Change

Well the answer is kind of obvious in some ways... the "prosperity" of the working class of our economy is utterly and completely resting on continued and growing conspicuous consumption. When people talk about how "wealthy" we are, they're certainly not taking about the balance sheets of the worki...

Re: Climate Change

Sorry guys, but the evidence that the planet is warming up is irrefutable. Warming involves greater fluctuations which can manifest as localized cold snaps. You can't cherry pick these and use them as contrary evidence. I was (again) reminded of this when I started getting allergy symptoms this pas...

Very good!
Quite excellent. I'm pondering if the central message is an ode to "Lilies of the Field", "Faith by Grace", "The One in Charge", "John Bogle Philosophy" or all of the above.

Re: Will Trump be Re-elected?

Interesting. I never had seen actual numbers before. I didn't realize his inheritance was that big. I was thinking say $20 million. Anyway, there's plenty of rich people who have lost their total inheritance. I'm no more worried about Trump having his finger on the button than I was with Bush 43. N...
