Re: Stock portion of PP

I have several PPs in separate accounts, so using small-caps instead of a total market fund will be in only one of them, sort of as an experiment. As for the backtest, here's one: http://i.imgur.com/iT99Gq9.png Interestingly enough, in my backtests with the SCV-PP, the one thing I've discovered tha...

Re: Stock portion of PP

I am planning to sell off stocks in my taxable PP soon to help pay for a large purchase and plan to replace it with VBR (small-cap value). What percent of your stock allocation will you put in small cap value?  For even more fun (and volatility), you could add some emerging markets equity. Also add...

Pointedstick have you been able to back test this for 10 years or so?  I would be interested in knowing what you think the improved return would be.

S&P Mid Cap 400 SPDRS or MDY might work also.

Re: Doom, Gloom and Zoom Zoom

Thanks for the tip on weighlifting.  I'm only 47, but I remember my physician father recommending to start weightlifting at least by 55 to limit muscle loss.  I started a few months ago, to go along with the jogging which I've always done.  I hate most of the weightlifting, but what you said about ...

Re: Doom, Gloom and Zoom Zoom

Budd is the man to give you help.  I think he is lifting more that his body weight.  For me I own a Cybex gym for over 20 years.  I like to be able to see my little fellow so I do 5 Abs programs.  I Think Budd will tell you to work on the legs.  As that is the major part to think about.  I don't do ...

Re: Doom, Gloom and Zoom Zoom

As a personal note, I do recommend weight lifting for all seniors over 60 years of age.  It a lot cheaper than buying LONG TERM NURSING CARE.  It gives you the best chance to be able to stay in your own home until you die.  You won't build much muscle but you can look good and maintain a whole lot o...

Re: Free gold by buying EDV vs TLT

Also, it seems that it is free cash to spend if you are withdrawing funds.  Or just build up your Cash position awaiting a re balance.

Re: GTU

I am completely new to all this... Looks like GTU closed at $42.93 today at a NAV of -7.81%... modeljc, just curious: What was your buy limit order and how did you come to that number? Thanks! I try to stay a little above the bid.  If you hit the asked priced they jump it up.  So you next order wil...

Free gold by buying EDV vs TLT

I need to add monies to long bond allocation and some to gold.  How about buying 66% of EDV vs 100% of TLT.  You got 34% to buy GTU @ big discount of over 7%.  Seems like you get approx. 36% free gold with not adding any new money.  Most of my postion is in TLT.  I would buy the EDV in a tax deferre...

Re: GTU

Can someone talk me out of selling GLD and buying GTU? 1.  GTU expenses are a little lower 2.  GTU is held outside of the U.S. 3.  GTU has favorable tax treatment. 4.  GTU holds physical gold vs paper gold 5.  GTU has a better audit than the others 6.  I get a tax loss to sell GLD. 7.  I OK with fo...
