Tactical Applications of the Permanent Portfolio or How should you contribute?

http://seekingalpha.com/article/830031-tactical-applications-of-the-permanent-portfolio I looked but didn't see a post about this article's approach to the PP, and it intrigued me. If there has already been discussion on it, please show me. :) Assuming the author's facts are accurate, it seems to in...

Re: Portfolio Review - How to transition to HBPP?

I use the G Fund as my Cash portion, and an 80/20 blend of the C and S as the Total stock market portion. I then use ETFs in a ROTH for the rest (TLT and IAU, mostly).

Re: Advice on Allocating 401(k) Contributions

I have my biweekly contributions going into the moneymarket account attached to my Roth IRA, and once that hits a certain dollar amount, it automatically purchases an even amount of each fund. It's essentially an automated DCA.

Re: G Fund vs. (I Bonds/EE Bonds) for Cash Component

I use the G-Fund for my cash portion. (I also use an 80/20 ratio of C/S as my total stock market portion). Then I just have the gold and long term treasuries in a separate ROTH.

Re: What brokerages are you using and why?

My ROTH is with Sharebuilder, because the price is low, I can set up automatic investments, and I get occasional free coupon codes. I don't think I have paid a commission fee yet.

Re: 20% annual returns over 40 years...interested?

How about: BGU 33% TMF 33% UGLD 33% ??? Checked it today (a little over 2 months from when I started the simulated portfolio at SmartMoney.com), it is currently at 17.60% It fluctuates a percent or two or three most days, but like the standard PP, seems to average an upward trend. Fun to watch anyw...

I would think the issue is "m". A key appeal of the PP strategy is no one knows what the future holds.

Starting an ETF

I wonder what it would take to start an ETF based on the Permanent Portfolio? Any ideas? I know a mutual fund would be pretty expensive, but a cheap(er) way to do it could be an ETF that is a collection of other ETFs... Maybe: 25% VTI 25% BIL 25% TLT 10% IAU 5% GLD 5% SGOL 5% AGOL or something simil...

Re: QQQ instead of VTI or SPY?

For the past 10 years, it has tracked very closely with the S&P 500, but with slightly higher returns, and slightly less volatility. I didn't look at it as a sector fund, but as a more broad market fund. Of course, it is quite tech heavy, and that becomes painfully obvious when I look back furth...
