This forum has so much traffic these days that I can't keep up.
An RSS feed that only contains new threads (as apposed to every single post) would make it easier for me to get back on board.
Early-retirement.org has such an RSS feed. Very handy.
Any chance of getting such a feed? :-)

Re: Legalizing Marijuana: The View From Mexico
Because they act as "Marijuana Magnets" and attract unsavory elements. It is a huge problem for Denmark Netherlands, Portugal, etc. with their "marijuana tourism". In the Netherlands, attempts to outlaw the sale of marijuana to foreigners created more problems than the free tra...

Re: Does any PPers plan to live until 2076 to celebrate the 300th birthday of USA?
Unless the next 63 1/2 years are better than the first 63 1/2 I'm not that enthusiastic about the idea, to tell you the truth. I definitely don't have enough money saved. Due to changing demographics, pension systems going down the crapper, etc. I expect "a part time job until you die" to...

Re: Does any PPers plan to live until 2076 to celebrate the 300th birthday of USA?
I have taken this pledge. Can you join me also? Thank you. I don't want to die, so I hope to still be around in 2076. :-) As it seems to be important to you, I hope the US still will be around too (I'm a European). I would probably be very happy to nip over to the US to celebrate with you. Especial...

MediumTex, you have a way of explaining things... I'm impressed, as I was in the past.
EDIT: same goes for Craigr! I'm looking forward to reading the book.

Boglehead arguing against the PP
FinanceFun writes in response to the description of a European PP investor's portfolio: So in summary: - I dont like gold as an investment, and for those who do the vast majority keep exposure to ~10% - Your equities are poorly diversified, focusing on mega-caps. Needs global diversification, and at...

Re: What supplements do you take?
I have been a dentist for 28 years and have amalgam, composite resin and gold in my mouth. I can tell you that without question, if you are concerned about the mercury in silver amalgam or the BPA in composite [and imho, there is no need to be], have your fillings replaced with gold. It is the long...

Re: A Gold Price Model
Can someone tell me where to monitor [or calculate] real interest rates? Some time ago I quickly put something together to pull that data into Excel from a couple of web pages. Unsure if it's entirely correct: I grabbed the 3 month UST yield from here: http://finance.yahoo.com/bonds and substract t...

Genetically engineered foods and animals have been around for centuries. Just watch any dog show to learn about selective breeding of desirable characteristics. Also, nearly all wine made in North America is made from european grapes grafted onto native american rootstocks to survive the varying ...

Re: An Attack on the PP and Craig R
One of the worst financial articles I've ever read. It's almost as if he's angry and misrepresenting the PP on purpose. Maybe "Robert Platt Bell" is an alias for boglehead Taylor Livermore who killed the original PP thread? ;-) Platt doesn't seem to know that Harry Browne is dead and the p...

Re: How Many Here Use Facebook?
I'm an introvert, not at all an outgoing person, and it has revolutionised my previously much more limited social life. Facebook helps me keep in touch with people I care about but don't often meet. The most interesting people I've met, learned from, and grown fond of during the last couple of years...

Re: God help us indeed
If people in a democracy want to elect people who express a certain religious belief publicly, on what basis would you say they shouldn't do that? Because YOU wouldn't do that? That's not much of an argument for changing someone else's behavior. In a number of countries the separation of Church a...

Re: Stansberry Research Video
I don't share MT's optimism about the USD. Since when is it optimism to merely say that the collapse of the world's reserve currency probably isn't imminent? That's like saying that because I don't think I am going to die this week that means I believe I am immortal. :D LOL while you wrote this I ...

About the USD, this is from a free excerpt of the latest GEAB newsletter: The end of QE2, the symbol of and factor in the explosive fusion [of the trends of global geopolitical dislocation and economic/financial crisis] now underway, represents the end of an era, that where the "US Dollar was t...

[heavily edited because site I was referencing doesn't exist anymore] I think this is the very long video that someone recently sent me. HBPP compared to other strategies on The Retire Early Homepage
Last year I suggested to the author to include the permanent portfolio in his yearly comparison of investment strategies. And this year he did!

Re: Discussion of Energy-Related Issues
A nuclear power plant has to pay the true costs of dealing with its waste, and must pass those costs on to its customers, so nuclear energy's price better reflects its environmental and safety impacts. Very hard to implement. As MT said, the waste is a problem "for longer periods that any huma...

Re: Nutritional Supplements and Health
The vitamin/supplements industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. I suspect there's a lot of research funded by supplement manufacturers that make us believe we need supplements. This is probably also true for the pharmaceutical industry. Probably even more, because that's where the big money is...

Re: Nutritional Supplements and Health
Worth noting Vitamin C's half life is 30 minutes. If you're interested in supplementing, make sure you don't end up with expensive urine. That's why I recently bought a timed-release vitamin C supplement . But I didn't read the fine print. Turns out it's Calcium ascorbate. I'm wary of supplementin...
