I'm still PRPFX+EDV in my IRA accounts. However, I just took a look at Yahoo Finance and learned that Facebook is one of the top 10 holdings in PRPFX.
I'm -10% in this account.

Re: Transfer some assets to another broker
I don't think there needs to be any type of liquidation, unless it's related to 401k/IRA rollovers. All the brokerages I've dealt with were able to transfer my securities in kind without it being a buy/sell transaction. The only problems I've had were the cost-basis didn't get added at the new broke...

1. I consider savings/checking as part of my taxable permanent portfolio cash allocation. I keep a larger allocation (30%) as a result. 2. PERM also seems to have such a low trading volume it's still pretty scary.

Re: Starting the Perm Port Soon
I agree with the 30/30/30/10 split. Here's why. You are young (23) and therefore I will assume (yes I know) that what you have in your IRA/401k is tiny compared to what you will be earning. Also, your yearly IRA contributions in cash will still be a significant portion of your whole IRA. You should ...

I've been in this for two years now (Sept 2011) at all time high of gold, and so far it hasn't been performing as swimmingly as I would have expected. Based off http://www.peaktotrough.com/hbpp.cgi I only have a 1.90% CAGR over two years which feels like I might be losing out to inflation. I've done...

Like others have suggested, just getting over the hump and buying that first gold coin can be a game changer. I just might start collecting some junk silver just to have smaller units of value too!Rick Ferri wrote: I don't buy it, literally.

@Khisanth, I followed your advice and changed only the dates and yield, leaving the Index portion unchanged, and it worked. No CUSIP necessary I guess, since the dates and % are supplied by me. Can I ask a question that is probably obvious to most? Where did you get the Index(ImportHTML("http:...

My preference is not to sell at all, so buy the lowest asset at the time if you are cash-heavy. This reduces taxes, transaction costs, and whatever else. Each of our situations will be unique in how we prioritize taxes, cash, or other assets of the Permanent Portfolio. We even have different sleep-a...

Re: Good, inexpensive index fund providers?
I haven't found a Permanent Portfolio "approved" gold mutual fund aside from GTU which is a close-ended fund that is traded on the exchange. I suppose that commodities are too volatile to be formed into a pure mutual fund that has a NAV trade once per day, thus demand for such is not profi...

For stocks, I prefer VTI or VTSAX. No trading fee, and 0.05% expense ratio. Index funds can also be ETFs so your understanding of ETFs may be flawed. For bonds, I prefer US Treasuries held at Vanguard For gold, I have IAU (0.25%), GTU (0.40%), and EEEEAAGLES (4% one-time fee) Cash I track as part of...

Congrats on staying the course annieB. That's all I can say at this point. Down 6% in 6 months? I don't see what the problem is. 6 months is far too short a time period to judge the performance of an investment portfolio, especially a newly-adopted one . If your time horizon is that short, you need ...
