What is your reasoning for expecting gold to sell off?
Down 2.25% at the moment and it always sells off when you hear any hype about how it has to go up.

Re: Why isn't gold moving?

Sold 50% IAU @ 17.99 which is the equivalent of 35.98 I guess...
Another opportunity to lock in some gains before it sells off like the plague.

Gold, just like the PP...USELESS!!

Re: What is your prediction for the future of the forum?

Spot on Barrett... It’s like this site has Alzheimer’s and can’t recapture the pure discussions and thought processes that allowed it to flourish in the first place. I read the political comments and I’d say maybe 1% makes any sense to me. How relevant it is to PP investing is probably that amount a...

Re: IAU Reverse Split 5/24

Why would IAU do this? To manipulate the ETF price lower so they can be more accessible to buyers wishing to make smaller purchases? Actually the complete opposite. Price is raised, not lowered. IAU is less accessible to speculators especially options traders. Thanks. I missed that it was a REVERSE...

Just a heads-up for anyone with some IAU. They did a 1-for-2 reverse split effective 5/24/2021.
Yeah! I noticed +100% premarket and thought it was a glitch.
So, what that split means for us holders?
We have 1/2 the number of shares at double the price.
Sucks for those that trade options.

I have a long stock portfolio (in addition to an HBPP) that I want to somehow secure against a big shock. I guess I can start layering in HBPP elements intermediate bonds, IAU.
Talk to MJ first.

Re: Rebalancing into more LTT

Agreed; the PP is not the be all, end all, portfolio and it is valuable to understand and digest the potential pitfalls that arise from time to time. Some of us don’t have 100 year investing time frames so a 100K drawdown in LTT’s is definitely concerning. I chose to divest out of LTT’s and although...

Let’s try and keep the discussion civil.
MJ provides much value to this forum on a daily basis and I for one enjoy listening to his life experiences.
He’s transparent both in his line of thinking and portfolio implementation.

PP is reduced to rubble as usual.
Might as well be 75% stocks.
Time to close the cover on this book and look elsewhere.

Re: Why isn't gold moving?

First sign of inflation and gold runs like a scared chicken with its head cut-off. Up 5% in the last month after a 20% pull-back isn’t very comforting (just like the PP overall).

I bought more at the recent lows after selling at the highs.

Re: Why isn't gold moving?

I'm seeing an increasing amount of stories (or videos) saying that although we're seeing price increases in some areas, we are not actually seeing inflation. Instead, we are on the verge of deflation. Of course I realize that for every one of those I click on, The Algorithm shows me four more. I do...

Re: Why isn't gold moving?

I have never questioned the PP until now. It's easy to say that I am falling into the "this time it's different" trap but in some instances this time really IS different. I am not sure putting 50% of my funds into cash at 0% and long term govt bonds at historically low rates is a great idea. [...] ...

Re: mathjak's daytrading adventures

MJ, you managed the decline admirably and have achieved the original objective to protect 2020 gains. It didn’t go as initially planned, but a 1% decline is negligible for your purposes.

Re: Why isn't gold moving?

If I recall HB said “unexpected inflation” in the 5+ range not 2-3% transitory inflation.

Negative real yields are +ve for gold as a store of value instead of USD.

Possibly in response to lower inflation reading.
Lower yields benefit gold and stocks are enjoying strong earnings.

Re: Drawdown phase of a PP in retirement

How would you alter a 35/15/0/50 stocks/gold/bonds/cash portfolio if you were only holding for 10 years? The 4x25PP or something else? Budd, Obviously your modified PP deviates quite a bit from Harry Browne's formula. I'm interested in your thought process. My guesses for the following: 1. Increase in stocks - because you are bullish on equities and anticipate economic prosperity? 2. Decrease in gold - you don't expect inflation t...
