Re: YTD Results of Permanent Portolio with/out Cash

I read an article at the link below about long-term capital gain of 0% taxation for earners in the 10% or 15% tax bracket. We can incorporate this into the Permanent Portfolio to increase our returns. No capital gains due for some investors By Kay Bell • Bankrate.com Read more: http://www.bankrate.c...

I am almost a Millennial Generation. Do you think we can still get Social Security when we turn 75 or 80? Is Social Security an entitlement?

Entitlement in America is much more dangerous than terrorism, communism, etc.

Entitlement in America is much more dangerous than terrorism, communism, etc. It will destroy the United States.
We need to provide plenty of opportunities for people to educate themselves, work, and improve their families and communities.

Do  you agree with that statement?

Big reversal in the last three days and back in profit. I'm not surprised - the markets are smarter than the politicians. As of today Crimea has rejoined Russia after 60 years and this resolves at least some of the uncertainty of the last few weeks. I won't go deeper here for the sake of staying on...

Why did you choose your signatures like that?

Hi PPers, One member asks me regarding my signature below, I have been thinking really hard about what matters to me in life and I come up with the values below. In the middle is the word "Commitment" which requires us the finish what we start and persevere until we succeed and don't give ...

Re: 3x33% 3XPP Europe (Inspired by Wonk!)

Thanks for your suggestion Odysseusa. It won't work for me though. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I could be in the hook for a nice portion of dough. Second, reason, which is irrelevant really as I don't want any debt or chance at debt in the first place, this is a gamble with a small...

Re: 3x33% 3XPP Europe (Inspired by Wonk!)

ILM, Why don't you open a Portfolio Margin account at Interactive Brokers and with $110,000 you can borrow several hundred thousands dollars. You can make it simple and put $100,000 each in SHY, TLT, GLD, VTI for a total of $400,000. I prefer this method of using Portfolio Margin instead of using 2X...

Re: YTD Results of Permanent Portolio with/out Cash

My parents were in nothing but cash ($300k) during a period of retirement lasting 35 years (Dad died last year, mom still alive). I certainly don't think it was the wisest way to handle their money (especially since I'm getting zero inheritance) but given their experience the idea of keeping 25% in...

Why do we need to include cash as the 4th component in the Permanent Portfolio?

Can we just use bond, gold, and stock only?

Re: If Permanent Portfolio existed during the American Revolution what would the 4th branch be

I am sorry for not being clear enough.

Currently we have checks and balances of three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial branch. Can we create the fourth branch to increase the effectiveness of checks and balances? If yes, what is the fourth branch?

If Permanent Portfolio existed during the American Revolution what would the 4th branch be

If the Permanent Portfolio existed during the American Revolution, the writers of the United States Constitution would need to include the fourth branch of government which required the people of the United States to participate by voting and monitoring the politics and special interests. How about ...

With only 7 stocks, and >5% chunks of your portfolio held in individual stocks, this looks pretty risky to me.  Are you planning to increase the number of stocks held?
