Global Stocks in UK PP
Hi Guys, Magneto raised a question about holding a fund that tracks a global stock index, rather than the local UK FTSE All Share here : http://gyroscopicinvesting.com/forum/http://77.104.139.218/~gyroscop/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=47628#p47628 - one concern I've seen raised relating to this is the cu...

UK PP & ISAs
Hi Guys, I'm looking to setup a UK PP and I'm wondering about the best way to structure it taking into account the advantages of the tax-exempt ISA wrapper given that I have more to invest than will fit in one ISA subscription. I'm planning on holding: LTT: TR60.L - exempt from capital gains tax STT...

Re: Anyone else implementing a Permanent Portfolio in the UK?
Actually, ignore that - I think the annual management fees for funds are going to exceed the dealing costs for Gilts, so no point.tbone wrote: Does anyone know if there are any funds available that track short or long dated UK treasuries?

Re: Anyone else implementing a Permanent Portfolio in the UK?
Does anyone know if there are any funds available that track short or long dated UK treasuries? I was going to buy them through Hargreaves Landsdown, but it turns out gilts have to be bought over the phone, so the dealing charges go from 11 quid to about 50 :( So I was wondering of there are funds...

...so I was missing something!Clive wrote: Out of the 25 Lazy Portfolio's tracked in Simba's Backtest spreadsheet the PP came last for annualised gains. Over a 40% difference between the best (Ultimate buy and hold) and worse (PP) annualised gains.

Re: Why 25% equal weightings?
From the historical performance stats I've seen aren't the PP returns already pretty close to the stock market's return over the long term? In which case, is the goal of the tweaks to do the near impossible and beat the market (consistently)? Or is there some other benefit I'm missing?

Re: UK PP
Tim, for the cash (or some of it anyway) is it worth considering index-linked savings certificates from NSI. They are government debt, tax free and pay higher interest than anything else (RPI+0.5% ie >5%). Basically they are a government give away to appease savers. Thanks Stone, I'll check that ou...

UK PP
Hi Folks, After having read Fail Safe Investing (what a breath of fresh air!) and this forum, I'm about ready to set up my UK based PP, this is what I've select so far: Gold PHGP (http://www.etfsecurities.com/cslgb/etfs_physical_gold_gb.asp). This is going to be my starting point. Ultimately I was...

Re: Why Investors Should Fear The Permanent Portfolio
tbone, I entirely agree that in an ideal world, wheat speculators would buy low and sell high and so provide a more even price for farmers and consumers. We don't live in such an ideal world and it is rash to pretend that we do. My understanding is that the structure of the market is such that sys...

Re: Why Investors Should Fear The Permanent Portfolio
Hi Stone, Personally, I would never save in agricultural commodities because it seems to have caused mispricings that have starved people eg: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/johann-hari-how-goldman-gambled-on-starvation-2016088.html Tim Worstal responded to this on his ...
