Re: Natural Gas Moratorium?

Perhaps using a heat pump would be another alternative? You would have to do the calculations against gas/oil/wood to see if it's worthwhile. https://airconditionerlab.com/coefficient-of-performance/ <snip> For instance, an air-source heat pump has a COP of 2.5, meaning that it transfers heat energy...

Kriegs Permaculture Notes

Waaay back I was going to an archeological dig in the back of the garage for my permaculture course notes.

Success! Here is the course overview. Will post some notes each week, hopefully beginning this Tuesday when I can get access to the local library's scanner.

May be of use to Maddy as well.

Thanks Mountaineer, Appreciate the effort you put into that post. Want to make the forum better? Then have a look at some of the quotes. Why am I passionate about this? Easy :D Because of the advice on this forum, I was able to retire early and care for my elderly mother. Let's see if we can help ot...

Re: What is your prediction for the future of the forum?

The rash of insubstantial, disingenuous, and otherwise trollish posts is making this forum an unpleasant place to be--not to mention a waste of time. Is there a reason for this destructive trend, other than to bring down one of the best, most useful, internet forums in existence? While I can't comm...

Re: Withdrawal rates and size of nest egg needed in current negative real interest rate world

Edit: In case it's useful to forum members. Here's Hals patented VP plan. Currently VP is almost identical to the PP allocation. 25% each global shares & bonds, 33 % gold, 17% cash. If shares take a huge dive, sell all bonds & buy shares. Rebalance slightly to get 50% shares, 33% gold, 17% cash. Pr...

Re: Withdrawal rates and size of nest egg needed in current negative real interest rate world

Hi Kevin, I appreciate the kind words. I try not to contribute anymore here as the discussions always seemed to end with people falling back on the old "you just gotta trust the system" argument. However, it is great to see you keeping your eyes open and not taking anything for granted :) I too hav...

Have a look over on BelangP's channel for an in depth analysis. You will have to sift through his videos, but here are two I remember.

Re: Historical Periods of High Inflation: Interest Rates?

If CPI underestimates actual inflation now, did it also underestimate actual inflation back in the 1970s? The historical charts of the real return of cash seem to rely on the accuracy of the government’s official measure of inflation. Don't think so. Believe the calculations were changed in the 80'...

Re: Historical Periods of High Inflation: Interest Rates?

Hi Tom, Regarding real interest rates, head over to Tylers site. Attached is a screenshot that may be of some use. If you after more detailed information, have a look at the Trading Economics site -> https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/indicators It's 3AM here so back to bed for me! Edit: Tyl...

Re: Does PP Only Work In Times of Declining Bond Yields?

To Toms point about rising interest rates, yes that's the PP's Achilles heel. Maybe farmland? People always have to eat. Maybe that what Bill Gates was thinking? When interest rates were higher, I wonder if people also debated whether interest rates could go even higher or was it a given that inter...

Re: Does PP Only Work In Times of Declining Bond Yields?

Curious to know what other people think. If people are so convinced that declining bond yields are over, how much do you think these people should be leveraged in their short LTT positions in order to show their conviction? My 2 cents worth... The premise of the PP is that you cannot predict the fu...

Re: Withdrawal rates and size of nest egg needed in current negative real interest rate world

But what about incremental change that takes into account the many virtues of the PP? The GB to my mind is the textbook such incremental improvement, tilting things slightly towards prosperity (the most likely economic scenario, historically) and diversifying the equity away from FAANG-driven TSM. ...

Re: Withdrawal rates and size of nest egg needed in current negative real interest rate world

Thanks for a thoughtful and well reasoned post Kevin, Years back I was discussing the PP concept with a retired Japanese stockbroker and she stated exactly those concerns relating to living in Japan (very low return on 3/4 of the portfolio). Now here we are with the same issue. I had been very serio...

The future of the forum? Hmm.
