Re: Optimal Diet

His booklet is riddled with nonsense, but that dude lived a wild life. I love reading all of the old time pioneers. Most of them were nutso, but there was always a gleam of something in there worth picking up. Around 2005, it was mind bending for me to realize that carbs weren't an essential nutrie...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

I will now return to lurking the forums..... Good to hear from you dockingGA. Feel free to post more, the greater the number of participants the better! The great thing about the PP concept is that if you think you can do better than the 4X25% portfolio, you can implement a Variable Portfolio. Math...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

I see no safety in the pp anymore ..I see it as a more volatile asset choice as asset classes move together at the same time in one direction or another behaving with the volatility at times of a 75% equities portfolio. I think equities and some gold are a better choice for the times ahead . Any bo...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

By the way, I've recently been one of the PP doubters. As I mentioned in another thread recently, I've been seriously doubting the value of the LTT piece of the PP now that the remarkably linear trend line for 30-year Treasury yield over the past 40 years is now approaching zero. Hi Tortoise, This ...

Re: Optimal Diet

Possibly explains why I weigh almost ten less pounds today than I did a year ago (155.4 then, 145.8 today)? Aside from drinking a quart of tea this morning around 8:30 AM...I consumed nothing else until a big bowl of peanuts around 5:00 PM. The rest of the day...I will have a supper of two bowls of...

Re: Mathjak! Do Safe Haven Investments Really Exist?

I have been in the PP (more or less) for a few years and it seems to have returned about what I would have expected. This year I have seriously started questioning it going forward. "I am closer than ever to going back to my grandparent's old time investing ways. No Bitcoin. No NFTs. No Modern Port...

None of these are Fort Knox. Getting some ideas? I was a bit struck by the ordinariness of these buildings. Seems like a team of commandos could get in and out. Although Dave is right about employee theft. A family member went to the Singapore Vault. Full body scan on going in plus they weigh you c...

Re: Should Some News Be Restricted?

Just a few thoughts from down-under :D Compost heaps: We used to dig a few trenches and fill them with alternate layers of high and low nitrogen material. Eg Manure then sawdust. When full we would plant Pumpkins in the trench, and the next spring dig it up and place it on the garden. You could turn...

Re: Drawdown phase of a PP in retirement

I just ran my balances and I am (Stocks/Cash/LTT/Gold) ~ 36,22,17,24 - I have to decide if I want to morph into a GB or be strong and rebalance into LTT's! You could always rebalance into shorter term bonds if you can't bring yourself to buy LTT's..... Maybe even a variation on the GoldSmith portfo...

Hi there, and welcome to the forum.

Quick Turing Test since you are new here. Which are better: cats or dogs, and why?
I'm sorry Smithy - I'm afraid I can't do that. >:D
