Re: Occupied Land acknowledgements
I can't believe I was vaguely aware of this song (as in I recognize the tune) yet I've never associated it with Australia or any political themes. "Give it back" is a quite creepy line. And it seems somewhat grotesque to me that such a song is sung by a guy who looks like elderly Reinhard...

Re: What's the actual rationale for investing in long term bonds?
I think I should read Mr Grahams book. Based on the passages quoted, a 50% stock, 50% cash and gold portfolio seems perfectly reasonable and also in line with your formula of "1/2 savings, 1/2 investments" (However, unlike you, he seems to place bonds more in the "savings" compo...

Re: What am I missing here?
OK, so according to Harry Browne, Shares out perform during prosperity. Running the Portfolio Visualiser again with Long Term Bonds, it can be seen that the Total Share Market far outperformed the LT Bonds. So for the the USA forum members (or anyone else who wants to comment), did the past 15 years...

How does it look priced in other currencies inc gold and btc Here's a chart in AUD. With respect to Gold, if you look at the original chart at the top of the thread, it seems as Gold is pretty much a straight line across the bottom compared to the US Total Stock Market. Not sure how to get a chart ...

Re: What's the actual rationale for investing in long term bonds?
Good Morning ArthurPooh, Maybe look at the issue from a different perspective. This is how I explained the PP to my late mother. 1. We put your money into 1/2 savings and 1/2 investments. 2. The savings are in 50% Gold, 50% Cash, just in case the AUD loses value 3. The investments are in 50% Shares,...

What am I missing here?
The attached chart indicates an inflation adjusted return from approx 50K to nearly 350K for US shares in the past 15 years. Could anyone explain to me what caused such a dramatic increase? Has US productivity increased that much?

Heh, heh! Agreed. Absolutely no chance of Western Australian succession. Why that would mean cancelling our BBQ's :o Also not concerned about straight out confiscation of Gold/Superannuation....but...I was advised by a few older folk that the Government mandated holding Gov't Bonds in retirement acc...

Re: New interview with Craig Rowland
Great to hear Craig's voice after so many years, and to learn more about how his professional background led him to embrace the PP. <snip> Interesting that he still cites inflation protection as a primary reason to own gold despite it being quite decisively proven that it doesn't fulfill that role,...

Re: Placement of cash (vs other PP assets)
At one time, not sure if it still holds, Australia prepared for a currency run such that all of the legislation to lock gold within the country, no exporting it, and being compulsory purchased at a price level it set, was just a Prime Ministers signature away. Or something along those lines. This a...

Some more historical listening.... http://pricedingold.com/category/audio-podcast/ So using Gold as the reference to the other asset classes Consider 25% Gold as savings (NOT rebalanced), 75% Bonds & Equity (2:1 ratio) where each are again divided 50/50 USA/International. For a 25 year period (N...

@Hal - if you recall, were there any interruptions to PM's online services during covid restrictions? I like the idea of being able to show up and get your coins. Maybe Texas depository. <snip> And the government lost credibility If ArthurPooh is open to other options, well yes, maybe Texas. Don't know how easy it is to take gold out of the USA though. In my opinion, Singapore is preferable to Aust...

Does anyone here store their gold at Gold Avenue (https://www.goldavenue.com/)? <snip> It seems too good to be true, and yet there are no usual scam indicators. Has anyone dealt with this company? Have I missed something? Add-on question to avoid spamming the forum with repetitive threads (and on t...

Re: I do not undestand the theory behind international PP at all
Obviously the smaller the home market, the greater the proportion of US investment: an investor in a country with 1% of world market cap would be ~44% invested in the US. On this basis, US stocks would constitute 1/3 to 1/2 of any non-US resident's portfolio. Thanks Tarentola, will definitely read ...

Re: I do not undestand the theory behind international PP at all
It's also interesting that HB didn't consider cash a true hedge for tight money recession - merely something that won't depreciate as much as the other three assets and will allow rebalancing into them. Then it appears the denomination of cash is not terribly relevant, and in a developed non-US eco...

Just for fun, try substituting European domestic cash in a US permanent portfolio over on Portfolio Charts.
