Re: Budding Minimalist...
It feels good to get rid of these things and I find I really think about each item I'm buying now very carefully before I decide to spend money on it. Having suffered the tedium of selling and donating a majority of my possessions in the past year, the first thing I ask myself when I'm tempted to a...

Re: 80-90% of your Total Savings in PP
About 90%. I have an HSA in cash that will probably become a separate PP in a year or two when the balance is a little bigger.

Thermos Nissan is something I use several times per week. Seems unbreakable and extremely effective at maintaining your beverage's temperature. Nothing fancy, just gets the job done...very well. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5128m2O8TtL.png The Amazon review for the 61 oz version has a tot...

Re: Optimal Salary for Government Handouts
This is a topic I play around with once in a while, but I first just want to point out that the Saver's Credit is nonrefundable . You can use it to reduce federal income tax liability to 0, but not to get any extra money in your refund. So in this hypothetical situation, if tax liability is alread...

One Second After, written by Gingrich's buddy William Fortschen, follows a similar idea, though it focuses more on survivalism than the loss of knowledge. The story takes place in the aftermath of an EMP attack.

We need lighten up a bit so more people can join. We are just too serous in here. ;D Don't change anything! I've been lurking around here for probably over a year, and the intelligence and civility of the forum members have kept me coming back. (Well, that and the nagging question of which ammo ...

Re: Do you change your own oil?
I change my own. Like SteveGo, I do a lot of my own car maintenance, so changing the oil is a good opportunity to poke around and see what condition everything is in.
I drive a lot of in-city miles, so I shoot for the lower end of the mileage range and change about every 2-3 months.

Re: New investor question
Thanks again for the quick responses. @ HB Reader - When I walked into the shop, the dealer had a spot price for gold written on a wipe board. The $50 and $80 premiums were the mark-up above the spot price. I haven't checked any online dealer spreads yet, which I'll do this weekend, but the plan ...

New investor question
Hi everybody, I've been lurking around here for the past several months, and have been making preparations to start a PP in the US in the near future. I wanted to learn more about buying physical gold, so I went to visit our local coin shop today. The dealer said his premium for Maple Leafs and Kr...
