Re: Anyone wants to have my sheets with historical investment returns? & My views

Good to see you back, Marc. Please stick around! Still reading your post... Was able to triple my portfolio thanks to investing in bitcoin early, and then lost all my profits again to another cryptocurrency. I'm terribly sorry to hear that. hey dualstow! :) Thanks man, it was hard indeed the past 2...

Jack Jones wrote: I'm curious why you view your cryptocurrency ventures as investments rather than speculations.
To me, a speculation is just a dirty name for an investment.

One is higher risk than the other, but often the risk/reward ratio is better in the higher risk category.

Anyone wants to have my sheets with historical investment returns? & My views

Hey guys :) I took down my popular blog a few years ago, but still have a big sheet with yearly historical investment returns for gold, stocks, bonds, cash and the Permanent Portfolio, in different regions USA, EU, UK, Japan, Iceland, some going back only 5 years, others 50 years. If someone would l...

Re: Bitcoin giveaway! :)

A couple of days ago the security guard in my building asked me if I had heard about Bitcoin. He seemed really excited about its potential. lol  :D Point taken, it certainly indicates intermediary top, but if u think dumb money made money already in bitcoin u are mistaken I think. Market cap is als...

Re: Bitcoin giveaway! :)

Bitcoin has fallen about 60% from the highs a couple weeks ago. Anyone who feels confident about bitcoin's future should be loading up. Is anyone doing here doing that? No judgment here (I'm about 30% in gold mining stocks now so.....imagine that beating). I'm just curious if people think it's risk...

Marc Are you still doing the giveaway if we have a wallet? My 16 year old son has been bugging me about starting a Bitcoin wallet and I was thinking it may be a good experience for him to follow this.  I just read this thread and thought  "boy that is nice of this guy to do this" and I co...

Good question. I made a video series exploring it, in the last one I conclude why I think bitcoins do not belong in the permanent portfolio (yet):

Re: Changing to global stocks and gold only

I self attacked after failing with silver and precious mining stocks in 2008. I threw in the towel. Said things to myself like 'how the fuck did I get this wrong again', 'speculation is just so hard', 'I can't afford to lose this money'. Indeed I started doubting myself. Did not dare to trust my lo...

As a long time peruser of this site but someone who just found out about bitcoins, I knew I could count on this forum to provide me with a lively discussion of their merits and drawbacks. I understood one of the merits of bitcoins to be that there are only 21 million of them, however something that...

Re: Bitcoin giveaway! :)

Did you buy individual Cyprus stocks or is there a small index? I imagine these would all be banks and possibly insurance right? Are there any other public industries for sale in Cyprus? Are the prices extremely depressed? I plan to buy a dozen that seem to offer high value. Happy to share with you...

What is it about them that you value? I value them because: They are limited in supply, I trust no one can print more of them at will, so the value will be kept. Supply is one factor of price....but not value. Something is not valuable because it's scarce...or expensive. The extra supply will go do...

I do value bitcoins What is it about them that you value? I value them because: They are limited in supply, I trust no one can print more of them at will, so the value will be kept. The extra supply will go down over time and become zero, so even better than gold that continues to be mined, so the ...

Re: Bitcoin giveaway! :)

What a thread! I looked into building a mining rig earlier this year, just as everyone was about to transition to ASICs.  I finally decided it wasn't going to be worth the hassle with the difficulty increases that were sure to come after the ASICs finally delivered, and it looks like that is still ...

Still doing this?  If so, much thanks: 1LKRDyKhCweFtjpYLcPnMMiFuZnPtYrvcT At one point, when BTC was about $0.25, I seriously considered throwing $5-10k into it as a purely speculative play.  What ultimately stopped me was that I just didn't trust mtgox and was daunted by the possibility that a pur...

Much appreciated, Marc! Yes, he is into it. In fact, he wanted to partner up for a bitcoin mining operation some months ago, but I had to decline on these grounds: - my home is too small to host the machines - I don't want the energy bill - I figure we can not keep up with the big boys out there an...

You seem to be into it pretty deep too. When did you take the plunge? And why? Were you resistant at first? I dabbled about a year ago but got in more when I decided on a whim to accept payments for my business in bitcoins. It proved popular since my customers tend to be tech nerds like me, so many...
