I went into a big chain hospital today. No masking requirements for entry or otherwise.

I gather that this is still not the case in some US states?

Re: New Ideas about Sleep

There was an AOM podcast on sleep last year where the guy basically says to forget about setting bedtimes, just wake up at the same time every day. So what I've been doing is setting an alarm every day, and if I'm not asleep in time to get 7.5+, I'll stay awake long enough to make it a <6 hour slee...

Vinny, do/did you watch Big Bang Theory? No. My TV watching is fairly much confined to C-Span, the Yankees, the Celtics, Providence College basketball, MLB Network. No TV shows. The main character, Sheldon Cooper, is a lot like you describe yourself. In many ways, the more I think of it. You might ...

Is this who it is?

Who I also have no memory of ever prior seeing?

Re: What's the future for Conservatism?

It's not only the parents. Today's "rubber room" culture makes sure that kids don't have any skin in the game. I honestly believe that many of them have no idea what it feels like to work hard at something--anything--and to reap the reward. But this again falls back on the parents allowing their ki...

I blame Boomer and GenX parents for making things too easy on their children while simultaneously micro-managing their lives, leading to lack of ambition and lack of personal responsibility. You do or do not belong to one of those generation categories? If so, how would you rate your parenting in t...

Re your spinach concoction: Sounds great. When you say "the rest of the spinach tossed with garlic and olive oil first," do you mean whole-leaf (un-pureed)? Any cooking involved? Yes, the remaining spinach was whole leaf. So a spinach/ricotta base, then mozz, then whole leaf spinach thrown on raw (...

Couldn't you move those mutual fund holdings back to Vanguard to sell them?
You could. IIRC, Vg was at one point allowing free conversion from MF to ETF with no tax consequence. If that is still an option, the best solution would have been to make that conversion prior to moving to Fido.

Re: Holding Vanguard Funds in a Fidelity Account

It's too late now, but you will probably incur a hefty fee to sell those Vanguard mutual funds at Fidelity (that does not apply to ETFs, which trade commission-free like stocks). OTOH, if you have a large paper gain on said funds, liquidating them prior to the transfer might have had unpleasant tax ...

I think the holdup is the environmentalists who think that nuclear is super scary Correct but eventually they're going to have to realize that green energy can't meet the world's needs and that nuclear is a lot better than fossil fuels, which will wind down at some point anyway. RENT CONTROL LOL. This is so classic. The Dem pols create a problem - high real estate taxes - that they try to solve with more bad policy - rent control - bc lower income folks are getting priced out. But instead of helping the poor, they create a black market system which, of course, gets exploit...

Murphy was the anti-semite. Not sure why Somedude was banned other than his anti-vax opinions. His posts were intelligent and well thought out IMO, but against the mainstream (usually wrong) narrative. So who are you then? The artist formerly known as pugchief. I was not banned, I left voluntarily.
