When did acknowledging that your institution is on “Located on Occupied and Unceeded XYZ Ancestral Homelands” become a thing?
Is it anything other than empty virtue signaling?

Re: The Red State Brain Drain Isn’t Coming. It’s Happening Right Now.
"*!#% the libtards, y'all thought we were soft, [redacted]!" I don't know of a single person who voted for President Trump in 2020 who feels this way. And I aside from that dude in Iowa, I've heard no white evangelical leader bemoan the god awful option of Trump. But anecdata will only go...

Re: The Red State Brain Drain Isn’t Coming. It’s Happening Right Now.
The text of St. Matthew runs as follows: Thanks! Always good to reread the Beatitudes! I suspect a non-zero portion of the political evangelicals would take umbrage at the Beatitudes, but not having gone to church in 20 years, that might be my left leaning stereotypes coming through. Way too many e...

Any other Texans want to confirm? Whats the motivation behind the pro-life folks. Are they really church goers? As a libertarian I dont get it but I want to at least empathize/understand I lived in Houston for 9 years, but left in 2013 only to move closer to family. As a big metro, Houston leaned b...

Re: Alright who’s hitting rebalancing bands?
Like Smith 1776 I just bought a house so my "rebalancing" came in the form of lighting a ton of money on fire.
More seriously, I'm still accumulating so I don't wait for cash to hit a rebalancing band. I just make purchases every month.

Re: TIPS Ladder vs. PP/GB in retirement
If you have a lot of cash, TIPS makes sense. If you want any sort of long return, the protection comes at a high cost. I'm pretty conservative (ha, we're all here right?!) and I quickly gave up on TIPS after an intial study of the product. That said I do have some money in TIPS to help lock in money...

Re: Gold ETF Placement
My lazy solution follows Smith1776 to have a bit in each and call it good. The most recent episode of Risk Parity Radio delves into the question a little. It's the last question on the episode before he goes into the weekly market update. His answer is gold can basically go anywhere. https://www.ris...

First one I let roam around the house until I discovered that it loved to chew on all the wires on the floors in my living room! Yeah...they are fun to have around the house but destructive little beasts! I used to volunteer at their OG shelter in Richmond California when I lived in the Bay Area. F...

Re: Long Treasuries Top Bond Market Returns This Year
Half the market thinks LTT's are overpriced and the other half thinks they are underpriced. So the question is it time for a rebalance (percentage bands, calendar, or whatever else you use as a trigger)? If so, then buy. If not, then wait for the predetermined trigger in your personal investment pol...

Re: Small Cap Value vs US Total Stock Market
The tracking error of SCV is a behavioral risk, even if it's better long term. Cause everybody else is going hot when the Dow or SP500 is going gangbusters. I'd recommend a simple 50/50 split of SP500 and SCV. Perfectly mediocre and you're never missing out It does quite nicely on Paul Merriman's qu...

With that news I guess I’ll be buying more into long bonds on tomorrow when I do my regular purchase as I slowly bleed into the market.

Re: How much to save for retirement
All any of us can do is to do our best and we’re going to end up with whatever we end up with. People have been retiring that way forever. To be pedantic…is that true? My speculation is that voluntary retirement is a modern construct. I meant “for as long as people have been retiring”, not literall...

Re: Hedging Against U.S. Dollar Losing Global Reserve Status
It’s basically a golden butterfly that is underweight bonds, especially if you switch to ITT. I think the performance gains are negligible when wiggling 5 percentage points one way or the other. At that point the key is to create a systematic system so you don’t let yourself get carried away by emot...

Re: Simplifying fund choices for the PP/GB
When I decided upon my asset allocation, I put together a little spreadsheet table simplifying it to the bare minimum of two funds (like Hal's 2-fund approach). It was a good exercise. That said, it feels natural to split brokerages between tax advantaged versus taxable accounts, just for a little h...

Ha! It’s because I was arguing from a libertarian point of view in the second half of my post. That said, I’d be wary about Florida. One might enjoy DeSantis trolling of teh libs, but he’s doing it with heavy handed laws. I’d recommend a purple state that doesn’t have a long term single party rule a...

If I had to bet what would be the global power in 40 years—"USA VS everybody else" I would get the pessimism around such a binary outcome. But the reality is you get to be the citizen of ONE nation...maybe two if you're lucky. So I return to the TINA question. Maybe Nigeria or India will b...

Re: TikTok ban thoughts?
Great! I'm all for a Tiktok ban...but I'm sick of Congress delegating powers to the executive branch.
My ideal is to ban certain types of surveillance that would cripple Tiktok's addictiveness (and FB, Twitter, Youtube, etc). Of course that's why it won't happen....

Thanks for the link. It might be just be confirmation but I agree with the Bogleheads article’s sentiment that a global-with-home-tilt equities portion coupled with an all domestic bond portion is an ideal setup. That said, if you look on Portfolio Visualizer you’ll see that into stocks are highly c...

Geopolitics always matter….to the point where it doesn’t really matter. If the system collapses (especially with the US as the worlds reserve currency) we’re all fucked no matter the portfolio. If you got a safety deposit box in another country, there is a chance you’ll be less fucked than the rest ...
