Re: Yay PP!

Meh …. My feeling is a newbie should be exposed to as much information about the pp as they can both good and bad . Moving certain facts away and only presenting the good really is not a good thing to do to new bees ..but then it goes back to the discussion being flipped back in to my choices and d...

Re: Yay PP!

I I know exactly how each individual portfolio does and my own results are in between the income model and the growth model ..I have no reason to get in to the weeds with a lot of calculations . What I do take interest in is how just the income model compares to the pp since they are the same equit...

Re: Yay PP!

MJ said it himself that an investment should be evaluated based on its long term performance, yet it seems to only apply to stocks. When it comes to the PP, then somehow he can't understand that gold has had the longest track record of keeping its purchasing power over time but no, we must look at ...

Re: Yay PP!

If he had this info, and disclosed it on this forum, everyone would realize him as the charlatan that he is. I don’t think he’s a charlatan at all. However, without the numbers, there’s a lot of confidence in these posts in pretty much every nook anad cranny of this, a permanent portfolio forum, co...

Re: Yay PP!

I don’t track performance since I retired and we are drawing out 6 figures a year ..only tracking I do personally is i compare balances left year to year …it’s the only thing that matters now Any performance tracking I do is done by the newsletter in the models themselves and i use a mix of two of ...

Re: Yay PP!

It’s multiple portfolios…..and the funds change over time …but I can give you the two portfolios returns since they are tracked right on the fidelity insight website . I use a mix of the two which varies too ,I keep equities in the 25- 40% range ..times like now I am more towards 30% …so exact numb...

Re: Yay PP!

It is a bet on lower inflation and rates not necessarily low prosperity… all assets can move up in prosperity. Rising rates and moderate inflation are its Achilles heel You yourself has said that NOTHING is doing well at the moment. So maybe this is the Achilles heel of all investment portfolios? I...

Re: Yay PP!

Just to echo what I believe Mathkak said, I moved to a PP in order to protect the wealth already created as I hopefully glide towards retirement. I would probably not choose this earlier in life. In fact I’m trying to decide the investing strategy for my kids. Is it better to limit losses with a go...

Re: Yay PP!

I agree ..I don’t think there are any magical properties..to me it is just another portfolio..although as you see rising rates and inflation can effect it more then other choices negatively . But the reverse can be true and if we slow down my more inflation weighted assets won’t do well . Mathjak, ...

Re: The PP, marginal utility, and investment "faith"

Why not run two separate conservative portfolios.. Put your desired allocation in the pp and then do another conservative model less interest rate sensitive…..even splitting it between the pp and say wellesly for simplicity. If I did the pp , personally I wouldn’t use Wellesly too as that does hold...

Re: Yay PP!

I like all financial discussions…….and I do like comparing since we both run pretty close to the same equity level . The pp bets heavier on low rates and low inflation , i am betting heavier on higher rates and higher inflation . I likely won’t get badly hurt if I am wrong just like the pp wil not ...

Re: Yay PP!

Mathjak, out of curiosity, what was the time frame/dates you were 100% in equities? As a response to Budd, I will bring up once again that when I decided the PP (or slight deviations from it like the GB) was right for me in 2014, it was with the understanding the portfolio was 'predicted' at it's cr...

Re: 20 yr vs. 30 yr Yield Curve

It's definitely counterintuitive. But who knows what the future holds. It will be interesting to continue to watch how the yield curve moves over the next few months, especially if the Fed completes tapering early and then quickly increases short term rates. Personally, I think that would be the end...

Re: 20 yr vs. 30 yr Yield Curve

It sounds like the yield on 20 year treasuries are now higher than 30 year yields as of today. Of course we always hear of a yield curve inversion in the 2 yr vs. 10 yr range is a great predictor of an upcoming recession, and I can understand in some ways why that is a good indicator/predictor of a...

Re: The GOLD scream room

i wasn't in it all of 2020 …. i got in around the election in nov after doing very well in my usual models and wanting to preserve those gains . gold and tlt were in the toilet for me with big dollar losses ..not only that but the model i left for it was up nicely even more so over all it cost me a...

Re: The GOLD scream room

why do people here assume i am stock heavy …i am far from it … looking at my own portfolio after the buying on the dip friday and topping off the positions in what fell i show : gold 5% commodities 5% (etf dbc) bitcoin (gbtc) 5% equities 20% ( fidelity contra , voo , and two other mutual funds ) fi...
