Re: Rebalancing into more LTT
Whenever you rebalance, almost by definition you feel like you're about to make huge mistake. Because, you're selling assets that have shot up in value and that everyone is dazzled by and wants to buy more of. And you're buying assets that have gone into the crapper and that everyone is telling you...

Re: Rebalancing into more LTT
My LTT allocation is almost hitting the lower band. All other assets are more or less at 20% (I have a GB portfolio), which means I'll buy a bunch of LTT's. What do you consider to be the lower band for the GB? I'd like to follow the PP/GB rebalancing rules by the letter, but it would be good to he...

Rebalancing into more LTT
My LTT allocation is almost hitting the lower band. All other assets are more or less at 20% (I have a GB portfolio), which means I'll buy a bunch of LTT's. With all the talk of inflation, I'm worried that this might be the worst moment to buy LTT. Inflation could trigger an interest increase I read...

Re: Drawdown phase of a PP in retirement
I am using the pp in retirement.. I do not count the portfolio cash as cash for living on ..it is an active part of the portfolio which balances out the long term bonds and acts as options to buy asserts on sale but with no expiration date . So initially we use a years out side cash thrown in the c...

https://www.reddit.com/r/investing/comments/lofha7/quantum_computers_may_break_bitcoin_much_sooner/ Here's another wrinkle to the argument. What about quantum computing attacks on the blockchain? The one thing I know about gold is that since it's physical there's no way that quantum computing can p...

Are Gold shorts also a risk (like silver)
See https://twitter.com/maxkeiser/status/1354548885419667457 Hey @wallstreetbets THE PAPER SILVER MARKET [SILVER SHORTS] IS 250 TIMES THE SIZE OF THE PHYSICAL SILVER MARKET (IMPLIED TARGET OF A SHORT SQUEEZE IS $5,000 PER OZ) So now WSB is trying to pump silver to get hedge funds in trouble. Is this...

Re: For our Euro members
Thanks for that, Hal. Choosing the proper US PP ETFs and/or contemplating whether to go with EU PP is definitely not an easy one. However, this PP implementation is not really for Europeans - 20+ LTTs are listed only on LSE (something I knew about) and given Brexit this ETF is even more non-Europei...

Yeah, that makes sense. So yes, from VP to PP, but not the other way around. Thanks!Kriegsspiel wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 7:34 am Harry's advice was never rebalance from the PP into your VP.
If you want to add to your PP, that money can come from earned income or you can move over some of your VP.

Re: Variable Portfolio FAQ
Here they are in a nutshell just so everyone understands the difference between the Permanent Portfolio and Variable Portfolio: 1) It must be with money you can afford to lose. 2) You aren’t allowed to replenish the Variable Portfolio with money from the Permanent Portfolio if you lose it. 3) You c...

I say stocks. It would be interesting to see the history of this poll and the actual winners for previous years. Did anything else than stocks ever win? This forum would probably be a wealth of data. I'll search the forums and see if I can make a spreadsheet or a little chart or something Cool!

This seems to me to be a good framework for non-US investors: split the equity allocation between US and local, and use local bonds. Ah, this is what I do! I live in the Netherlands and have split the equity allocation between US and EMU stocks. And with German bonds (the best we have in Europe I t...

Re: SS & the PP
LTT's are a safe haven asset that hedge against periods of deflation, economic contraction, and fear. During a deflationary crisis, LTTs spike, compensate for losses in stocks and/or gold, and provide the capacity to rebalance capital into those assets at discount prices. SS is not a flight-to-safe...

Re: Bitcoin+Cash portfolio?
Why would you buy GBTC with a 2% annual fee if you can buy the real thing? A few reasons. 1. You dont need to worry about bitcoin technical stuff like storing it, they custody 2. The GBTC premium (currently ~25%) can actually increase during bull markets so you could profit even more that way 3. Yo...

Living in the EU is somewhat special I think, you can invest in EMU funds and diversify over quite a few countries and still stick to a single currency.
