Re: Would you wear a mask?

Way too complicated for me. Kind of reminds me of a Jesuit who, in furtherance of his search for a way around the prohibition against masturbation, announced (quite seriously) to his class that abusing oneself "inadvertently" doesn't count. One of the early church fathers, someone named Origen, act...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

One of the objections to the Catholic Church is her teaching that the Mass is a true sacrifice, and not simply the Lord's supper. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that 99% of both Protestants and Catholics don't give a rat's ass about this subject. Same with the doctrine of "transubstantia...

I've been binge-watching Money Heist. I originally thought it was just about a bunch of robbers stealing from the government of Spain but in season 4, the genious leader of the group known as "The Professor" decides to bring down the whole lying, corrupt government of Spain while stealing the entire...

Re: Would you wear a mask?

It's the flagrant narcissism that pushes my buttons, not just on mask wearing, it's more on people choosing on their own to not follow As a Christian, don't you have any problem passing judgment on other people as "flagrant narcissiists"? I think Jesus had a few things to say about that. I know it ...

Re: The Inflation Spike Probably Won't Last

My bedrock belief has been that the US Govt HAS to have inflation to pay off the debt with cheaper dollars by screwing their creditors. There is no other way. The fact that, prior to now, they have not been able to engineer it must be very unnerving for them. They will learn something from this inf...

Thank's Xan. Probably something to think about with the amount of red meat I eat. Of course, if I get blood drawn frequently enough, the problem would be self correcting :) And pp4me, Xan is just talking about problems associated with excessive iron in the bloodstream. I've never looked into that, ...

Re: The Inflation Spike Probably Won't Last

The wars in Afganistan and Vietnam also lasted a lot longer than they were predicting. I'd say the war against inflation could last as long except that I think there is no war against inflation. The only thing it has in common with those wars is that it is deliberate government policy, possibly run ...

Mark, you might also consider a ferratin test, at least every once in a while. Hemochromatosis can sneak up on you. I always get the feeling that these tests are basically about mining your blood for drugs to sell. I've never heard of ferratin or hemochromatosis but something tells me the drugs mig...

Do they have pre-determined names for variants in alphabetical order like they do hurricanes? If so, we're up to O and there are only 10 left before they start using numbers. You may count 11, but I read somewhere that the letter X would be ommitted because it would be the "Xi" variant and they did...

Credit cards are a pretty cool innovation.
Especially the ones with cashback and reward. I use mine wherever they will take it but haven't rolled the balance over in probably 20 years.

Re: Would you wear a mask?

If there was one good thing about the masks, lockdowns, forced closures of "non-essential" businesses, and mandatory vaccines it's that it seems to have reminded a lot of people of the quote from Benjamin Franklin, " “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, d...

Update to the story about the new variant from Africa as FoxNews warned us about yesterday. Lol! Looking forward to the cries of "racism" I'm not big on organized conspiracy theories. I see that the Ahmaud Arbery trial ended up with a conviction on all counts for all three men who will probably be spending the rest of their lives in prison or at least the better part of it.
