Re: Dragon Portfolio

No way the unaccredited investor can do a Dragon Portfolio. The closest a Punter can do is... wait for it...the PP.

Jakob Fugger Portfolio

One of the richest Men in all history. Lived from 1459-1525 aka "Jakob the Rich".

25% Business (Equities)
25% Gold Coin
25% RE (REITS)
25% Sovereign Debt

Sound Familiar... maybe he was HB's inspiration. Kinda like I suspect that ol' Ray Dalio got his inspiration from HB.

Re: Withdrawal rates and size of nest egg needed in current negative real interest rate world

Hi Kevin, I appreciate the kind words. I try not to contribute anymore here as the discussions always seemed to end with people falling back on the old "you just gotta trust the system" argument. However, it is great to see you keeping your eyes open and not taking anything for granted :) I too hav...

Re: Does PP Only Work In Times of Declining Bond Yields?

So, the PP made a profit through the dramatic rate increases of the 70's. It also did well in the Japanese Deflation in comparison to other Portfolios. Also, if the FED introduces a CBDC they could conceivably take interests rates well negative. Even if we don't get a CBDC rates could still plummet ...

Re: TAXES BABY, TAXES!

Xan, so watch the BelangP YT VLOG and he said something that I found interesting. He said unlike an Equity Share, which is "first in first out" with regard to sales, a Gold Bullion sale can be conducted with you highest Cost Basis Coin, or Bar. So, if you're forced to rebalance this ameliorates the...

Re: Help a Mofo Out with his PP

Very instructive and thanks to all for all the assistance. It seems that if one goes the ETF route, you don't get the duration that a straight up 30yr LTT gives you. You can tell from looking at the yield on these ETFs that they don't have as much duration, but then you don't have as much durationa...

Hold your gold in physical.

When the time comes, you can decide whether it is wise to report capital gains or not. Anything you do that preserves your options is free money.
Yes, as we transition from only a pseudo Stasi State to the full blown version, one will have decisions to make.

Re: TAXES BABY, TAXES!

If gold goes to a billion and you sell a coin for a billion in cash and report a billion in income to the banana republic government.......thats on you. If the government hyperinflates, you shouldn't think they will honor roth ira promises. Gold is best owned in physical form, secure from legal and...

Re: TAXES BABY, TAXES!

You could just move to a state that doesn't have sales or capital gains tax on bullion (Utah, Oklahoma, Wyoming). Kansas may be heading that way too. This of course assumes they don't change their laws. Even with zero state taxes, (South Dakota) the Feds still tax capital gains on bullion. Yes, and...

TAXES BABY, TAXES!

So, I've thought about this subject a lot with regard to Gold, even before the latest BelangP Episode on the matter. If we Hyperinflate, or just get really bad Inflation, then your Cost Basis is going to be off the charts. Can you imagine what the tax implications of the likes of a Venezuela will be...

Help a Mofo Out with his PP

So, in my IRA I can own either actual LTT or TLT. So, which should I own and why. What are the advantages, or disadvantages to each. I'm working my way into a PP. My only deviations thus far is in the Equity position I'm 12.5% VTI & 12.5% AVUV (been listening to Merriman and Swedloe too much ;D). Al...

Hi fellow Canadian, To hedge or not to hedge ? I thought about this quite a bit. Looked for hours at performance charts (USDCAD vs SPY vs GLD). Wisdom says whatever you choose, keep doing it. What I mean is if you do choose to hedge, keep hedging forever because otherwise you will end up inadverten...

Re: PP* Portfolio

The vanilla PP is a perfect concept, but I see 2 modifications that enhance it (based on what Harry said). I call it PP* 25% Growth Stocks (eg, VUG, SPG, SCHG) - Harry said that stocks do well in times of prosperity. In times of prosperity he said that interest rates are often low and the economy e...

Re: BelangP & PP

Out of all the popularized portfolios in the market of investment ideas, I don't really know of one that is more "black swan proof" than the PP. The biggest challenge with the PP is just getting people to accept it and stick with it. Gold makes people nervous. Long treasury bonds make people nervou...

Re: BelangP & PP

A Black Swan proof portfolio doesn't exist any more than a magic unicorn that shits diamonds. There are, however, portfolios that are extremely prudent as Howard Marks always likes to say. I guess most on here tend to agree that the PP is one of those portfolios, but there are at least 3 others tha...

Re: Eagles / Buffalos vs Lady Fortuna’s

Just got a beautiful Lady Fortuna 50g bar with PAMP Veriscan (so it’s easy to verify) - is there any reason why this easily verifiable gold would be less liquid than an eagle / buffalo. Also is there any legal difference between a bar and an Eagle / Buffalo? Yes, it would most likely fetch less bec...

The part about switching out LTT’s for T bills starts at 3 minutes in. https://youtu.be/GI5iUvrHhQ0 Yeah, so I was constrained for time. He also elaborates more towards the end of the VLOG as well, but it is pretty much a reiteration. My motive was just to get it out there for informational purpose...

Re: HB Actually Did Disavow Growth Stocks In The PP

To answer what HB would have said privately is pretty easy actually- Harry would've said VP. Now the as to the PP the resounding question is: what would Harry have done with the LTT component of the PP??? Would he have advocated that, at least temporarily, someone substitute STT or just all T Bills...
