Re: The Peter Schiff portfolio: an evolutionary offshoot of the PP

Oh boy. HEY GUYS. Who do you think would win a fist fight between Peter Schiff and Harry Dent????? With regard to the dividend issue, many would say that in the current times of stock manipulation via stock buybacks (legal yet again) a company that pays out dividends might be a better steward of sh...

Although at the end of the day it is all one big portfolio I find it easier to track and optimize by time frame
Yeah, its all really one big portfolio in the end.
I run my Wife's TSP & my VP and also my Son's Coverdells with all having different objectives and timeframe expectations.

Re: The Peter Schiff portfolio: an evolutionary offshoot of the PP

Schiff's problem is the same one that afflicts a lot of others. Ideologically based investing is dangerous. Schiff has drunk deep from the Austrian School's kool-aid and is a confirmed gold bug. Once upon a time I was there as well. But I've moved on. Yeah, Schiff is also very very certain that he'...

Re: Interesting comparison (of pp) to 60/40

I used a mix of 3 fidelity insight portfolios ….they averaged about 40% equities …each portfolio was optimized for a certain time frame . Meaning shorter term money used a 25% equity model , a growth and income model for intermediate term money used 60 to 65% equines and 35-40 % bonds and a long te...

As a retiree I no longer care about history … All that matters is what happens during my time frame while drawing my income . So far I am retired 7-1/2 years , drawing 6 figures a year at about a 4% draw and even today I am higher than I was the day I retired . But I didn’t do it on the pp That's p...

I have previously watched a few of BelangP's youtubes but do find them too lengthy for my liking, so I'm not a follower.
BelangP, is basically about 80% dividend equity & 20% physical gold bullion coins.

Re: Tim Price discussing the HBPP in the current economy

One big take away for me is that commodity trend following (CTA) is very interesting. One CTA I follow is up 30 percent in the past 12 months. Which I think is a general direction of a lot of the CTA’s. Basically it seems like they are zigging when a lot of stuff is zagging. Chris Cole's Dragon Por...

I bought 30 years at 4 and then again at 3.87. I am using a new rule for myself. It’s called go halfsies. If I’m scared to buy or sell I do around half. That gets me moving.

Diversification is really the holy grail. Yes, it absolutely is for the average person. Unless you're Charlie Munger, or somebody that has inside knowledge like Paul Pelosi . If he has it then would not everyone else in Congress (including their spouses)? Yes, apologies. I meant all the scumbags fr...

Re: Are most people here sticking with Treasuries?

Just pointing out that an 18% drop in a year is not unprecedented for the PP. I don't believe the yearly data show it as it's only happened intra-year so far. Fingers crossed that happens this time too. Yes & besides,WTH else CAN one do that is SAFER with their money. We all pretty much know what c...

The more I know that I don't know & the more years that I research portfolios, the more faith that I have in the HBPP to hold up during pretty much all economic regimes. I think you would have a hard time picking a better Core Portfolio.

Harry didn’t live in our world as it exists today. He may have done things very differently. You really want to go by. What makes sense and drawing large amounts of cash to live on will unbalance the assets of the pp even if still at the fringes of the bands . If you rebalance them to get back your...

This Dude has, IMHO, too much of a "Chauffeur" bias himself AND he's been listening too much to Alastair MacLoed of Goldmoney. The HBPP is biased towards a high inflation/hyperinflationary environment. You would have to be able to recognize that you were in a hyperinflationary regime however & stop ...

I was just wondering if the performance of the PP year-to-date is the worst it has ever performed, or has it had a period(s) in the past where it actually performed worse? I've been doing the PP for 9 years and my returns are anemic. My CAGR is around 5%. Because I am retired and living off of my i...
