Re: The Great Reset

Coincidentally, driving down main street in my small town, I'd estimate roughly 75% or 80% of the vacant storefronts (of which there are a lot) all have the same "sold" sign on the front of the building. My neighbor, who's lived here all his life, said they've been vacant for decades. I wonder if a...

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

Your spreadsheet is simply comparing pay now or pay later taxes. That was only to answer a specific hypothetical from Xan as to what would happen if the feds eliminated the step up on basis at death. I'm not proposing any "pay later taxes" at all :) Either you care about what you’re leaving to heir...

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

This is a good point, in the sense that for this to work, the gain should be greater than the interest payments on the margin. You could make a spreadsheet with different potential outcomes. For example, annual growth between -35% and +35%, and margin interest between 1% and 15% seem like fairly re...

I don't know any "white supremacists" although according to some folks I must be one since I don't think they even exist, at least to the extent that Joe Biden and friends think. Have you checked your white privilege? When was the last time you turned down a job offer or job advancement so a person...

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

A rapid rise in interest rates would definitely be the thing to worry most about. Theoretically your assets would continue to earn a real ~5% over inflation, so your margin loan would never go critical if you were only withdrawing ~3.5% per year of your net worth (assets - loan). I've been told rep...

Could I trouble some of you keto people to describe what a typical breakfast, lunch, and dinner consists of? Especially you busy people who, like myself, don't spend more than 10 or 15 minutes preparing meals. The closest I've come to going keto is to substitute Sophie's keto mug muffins for my usu...

These clowns are a joke. So a bunch of politicians who have never built anything in their lives and wouldn't know where to start are now going to "Build Back Better" and solve all the world's long existing problems while they are at it. Hope they all held hands and sang "Imagine" before they left. ...

I think the safest assumption to make is that [Sophie] is Madame Curie. I agree. I suspect Madame Curie did not die, in fact, used radiation to develop immortal life. But had to fake her own death, lest be forced to share it with the scientific patriarchy. So she lives, an immortal, on an island wi...

To use Jordan Peterson's language, Sophie is at the top of the dominance hierarchy on this forum in regards to health knowledge. She's my go-to girl for this kind of stuff! There are lots of early retirement bloggers proudly living on something like $20K/year and not paying any taxes. They Roth-convert from their 401Ks up to the standard deduction, and live off dividends and capital gains while paying 0% on them because they stay in the < 15% tax brackets. Of course, ...

Re: Buy, Borrow, Die. Legally Never pay Taxes.

Method 1: Whole Life Insurance Policy. Won't work well in times of low interest rates. The idea is you put money into the life insurance policy. It grows tax-free, creditor-protected. You then take loans from the policy's cash value. The loans are debt, so they're tax free. This assumes you actually...

Re: IMF proposes ‘solidarity’ tax on pandemic winners and wealthy

When I read the thread title, I thought you were referring to individual companies. Like we gave you some PPP money so you wouldn't go bankrupt, but now that you barely survived we're going to tax the crap out of you to make up for the businesses that failed. Which they are basically already doing,...

@sophie I am curious about this ketogenic diet and am sure you have your facts in order but I am experiencing serious cognitive dissonance having in the past read and put into practice the Dean Ornish diet, and the keto diet appears to be the opposite of that. My question is, has the work of Ornish...

Another Weekend. Another Mass Shooting. In Austin.

Looks like another white incel (Or maybe a white supremacist) in his 20s or 30s gunned down 14 people trying to have a good time in a downtown bar area of Austin. Two weeks ago, same story in Miami. But thanks to the NRA, nothing will change. Never even saw a follow up on that Miami mass shooting to...
