Re: Virtual Audit

Hi Coasting, If you click on one of the coins shown on their site, you get both the purchase and buy back price. For example right now the gold 1 oz eagle is listed as $1856.80 and buy back is $1769.30 so the spread is 4.9%. (That's actually pretty low compared to what it was a few months ago). Othe...

Virtual Audit

About 2 years ago, someone on this forum recommended SWP Cayman for offshore precious metals storage. I opened an account with a very small holding and made plans to visit them in May 2020. Well, the island closed due to the Wuhan. It is open now, but anyone visiting must spend a week in quarantine,...

FBI Stealing from Safe Deposit Boxes

Another reason for storing your gold off shore. https://reason.com/2021/07/29/fbi-seized-900000-from-safe-deposit-box-on-pure-conjecture-federal-judge-says/ "A federal judge issued a sharp rebuke to the FBI's attempt to expose the identity of one of the anonymous victims of a March raid that seized ...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

The one CDC statistic I believe is total deaths and age, mainly because I don't think you can fake a death and there is no incentive to fudge the age of the deceased. So the latest results are shown below. I think the pandemic delta or otherwise is over.

Re: Best gold deal out there

Bullion Vault is a good alternative to offshore coin storage. In my case, I already had a stock of coins, and it was cheaper to ship them then to sell them and buy the fractional ownership bars. Plus I like the idea of being able to visit my gold in person and take delivery of it if I want. But to g...

Re: Best gold deal out there

If you never plan to take delivery DD, would an etf like GLD or SGOL be better since the spread is almost nil? Does your dealer have a storage fee? Why aren't you taking delivery? You are right about the ETF except this is money that I want protected from taxes and/or confiscation. It is in an offs...

Re: Best gold deal out there

To my thinking, the spread between buy and sell price from the same dealer at the same time is more important than the premium. For example the (off shore) dealer I use had as of a few days ago a premium of 13.3% and a spread of 10.7% on US Eagles. At the same time the premium was 5.3% and the sprea...

Re: Satellite views of some vaults

I don't think any of us are in a position to judge the physical security of a vault, but in any case I think the risk is much higher of employee theft. So the question should be do these facilities have independent insurance coverage and third party audits of their holdings? I know the one I use doe...

Re: I need to buy some gold!

I don't have an account with them, but it appears to me that Bullionvault offers allocated fractional ownership of a 400oz serialized bar of gold bullion. That is a bit different from SWP Cayman where you own the coins stored in a segregated container with your name on it. For example, if I look at ...

Re: I need to buy some gold!

I don't think I should go into details on that here, but SWP made all the arrangements. The shipment was fully insured. The cost worked out to about 0.5% of the value of the coins. That is about the same as you pay them annually for storage. But this is way cheaper than selling them locally, then ha...

Re: I need to buy some gold!

I recommend Strategic Wealth Protection Cayman (SWPCayman.com). They have a ton of informative videos on line, and you can set up an account without visiting them. I opened an account about 1-1/2 years ago, and they bought 2 Eagles for me. (I wanted to start slowly to see how they operated). More re...

Re: Gold Defensive Strategy

The purpose of my physical gold VP is not to make any money; it is to avoid losing a lot if stocks, bonds and the USD tanks. I do think we are in for a serious reckoning in the next year or so. Silver, Bitcoin and Gamestop are something for 20 year olds to speculate on. I am retired and cannot affor...

Gold Defensive Strategy

I am very pessimistic about the direction I see the economy taking and how it will affect three of the four elements of the permanent portfolio. Higher taxes, continuing Wuhan virus restrictions and more regulation will harm the stock market, huge deficit spending will impact long term bonds, and ec...

Re: Safety Deposit Box Insurance

Their rate schedule is posted at https://swpcayman.com/storage/segregated. For gold it is 0.7% for <250K and 0.5% for more. $200 min per year.
Has anyone else used them?

Re: Safety Deposit Box Insurance

I do not trust safety deposit boxes. Banks occasionally close or remodel their branches and sometimes consolidate their boxes. There are horror stories elsewhere on this site about what has happened. Some years ago, I put my gold in a Wells Fargo branch and arranged for the annual fee to be paid fro...

Re: SWP: Another option for geographic diversification

Does anyone have first hand experience with SWP? Web site looks good and I like that they accept (and will arrange for insured pickup and shipment) of existing gold coins. You can also visit your coins in person to see that they really do hold them in segregated secure storage. Since they are not a ...
