Re: Rebalancing into more LTT

You always have to look at it as today and into the future. Looking back at last August doesn't mean anything now. The rate is where it's at today, because half the market thinks it can go up tomorrow and half the market thinks it can go down tomorrow. By "half the market" I mean half of the buy/se...

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

I 100% believe that if we get future surges, that they will be dealt with in a much less "lockdowny" manner, just because we have gone through it once and that officials, for the most part that I see, do not want to go through this a"gain. I respectfully disagree with this. I think that at least 50...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

The supermarket has their sign up again, so I'm back to complying. this is probably not a surprise to anyone on this thread, but I studiously ignore those signs and announcements. Including whem I've had to go to the Post office Texas has been completely open for a while now. Absolutely no capacity...

Re: Rebalancing into more LTT

Whenever you rebalance, almost by definition you feel like you're about to make huge mistake. Because, you're selling assets that have shot up in value and that everyone is dazzled by and wants to buy more of. And you're buying assets that have gone into the crapper and that everyone is telling you...

Re: Jeff Booth on deflation

I am still trying to process the part where he said that the inflation you think you are seeing at the supermarket etc. is really just the deflation of your paycheck in a world where your purchasing power is decreasing because your labor cannot compete any longer due to globalization.

Just out of curiosity, what percent of voters in your county are registered D vs. R?
It’s getting close to 50/50. Bush Jr got 70% of the county vote in his elections. But Romney dropped to 64% and Trump to 55% and 51%. An influx of Californians has changed the political landscape a lot.

My son’s school district released results of a parent survey today. Keeping in mind this is Red State Texas. When asked if they would like a virtual school option next year, 56% of parents said yes. Of those 56%, 72% cited Covid as the primary reason with convenience and quality of education coming ...

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

And what if this summer is a lull before another fall/winter "case" spike? I have already seen several articles in the last week or so starting to warn people about the coming resurgence this fall. Even if you believe things will open up a bit in the summer, what makes you think politicians and cit...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

My daughter and their pod in my basement are nearing the end -- they are all currently taking AP tests this week (at school) and there isn't much left after that. It has been an exceptionally good experience for them. There's no doubt that these girls are self motivated and not procrastinators, so ...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

janalong, how has your son done over the past year plus? Has it been as bad as you feared? Actually I am quite surprised that he adjusted to having to wear a mask for 7 hours a day pretty well. He wore a gaiter instead of an actual mask. This winter the school asked everyone to wear masks and prefe...

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

People are allowed to adjust opinions and strategies in a fast moving global situation. I have no answer for you on exact timeline. If you are still hung up on how it didn't just take two weeks and done, you'll never be satisfied. Everyone got that wrong. Just a gut feeling and a noticing on how pe...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

The proverbial next crash ….. More money has been given up or lost in preparation for all these next crashes than has been lost in crashes themselves … I feel like most of these sort of decisions all come down to timing. If you go in on stocks now and there is a 30% crash in the next 12-18 months t...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

I have been listening to people for 30 years tell me that hyperinflation and/or a massive stock collapse worse than 1929 are right around the corner. If I had listened to them I would be a lot poorer. If I had completely ignored them I’d be a lot richer. Instead I’m somewhere in-between! Somewhere ...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

What you end up doing is what happens to those who wait for the proverbial crash to buy stocks …they wait so long that they gave up more than they could ever get .. Plus if you are waiting for that flight to safety you are going to be timing to grab that gain because as we know as soon as the smoke...

I would be interested to see the correlation between poverty level and the destructiveness of Covid. In Brazil the poverty rate is over 25% and it’s over 60% in India. I went maskless in the grocery store today. They haven't had a sign on the door for a little while, so I figured I'd see what it felt like. I have to say, I felt like a criminal. I was the only person in the store without one. But I'm no longer any real danger to anyone else, nor they to me. So it'...

Re: Mathjak! Do Safe Haven Investments Really Exist?

I have been in the PP (more or less) for a few years and it seems to have returned about what I would have expected. This year I have seriously started questioning it going forward. I am 50 and still accumulating. In fact this is the first time in my life that I am completely debt free and able to l...
