Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

This is what I got back from my doctor's office less than 1.5 hours after I'd sent a message regarding symptoms and the expired test dates: "Vincent, There has been recent information put out that there are certain brands of test that remain stable for a certain number of months after expiration. Ju...

Re: Are most people here sticking with Treasuries?

Foresight is 20/20 in hindsight. I mean that more sincerely than it probably sounds. At the moment things are incredibly volatile. Anything could happen really. For example, it could still turn out that some % of the inflation we are fighting is pandemic related disruption. And if this % self-resol...

Re: TBills as "the best horse at the glue factory?"

Anyway, I think you'll be happy with Fidelity. I sure am and it's only been like 12 hours. I like that they have a cash management account that I can treat like a bank too. And I am sure I will like their Full View which will let me view my other non-Fidelity accounts, vs. needing to use Mint. All ...

Re: No surprise!

I'm an equal opportunity party disliker. I still vote exclusively R, but I'll throw away my vote to a write in candidate in a nano-second if my R choice is someone I consider to be part of the crazy faction. I'd actually consider D candidates now which is a change for me. I'd likely not vote for an...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Do some Google searches. Tests are probably ok for several months past expiration date. There is a list available (I don’t have with me) that tells new dates by mfg date and company. I think I saw it on Popular Science but not sure. Good luck. Edit: Supposedly Walgreens also has free Covid antigen ...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

You did succeed in getting me to test. I pulled out the tests and was ready to follow through until it said to check the expiry dates. Mine were February 2022 and August 2022. Said to not use the tests if past expiration date. I will now go to my medical portal to update my doctor and see what he r...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

I should have put 'super spreader event" in quotes as that was my friend's term. Not that I was agreeing with him. I was posting to describe my symptoms and asking is it (highly) possible that I just have a cold? The same type of things that I have experienced for years? That it is not at all covid...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

A friend told me I should inform my periodontist office when I went to an appointment yesterday afternoon that I had a sore throat and had been to a super spreader event. I have some of those free testing kits but I've not pulled them out. This feels exactly like when I've had sore throats and feel...

Re: TBills as "the best horse at the glue factory?"

I should split this to a Vanguard thread. I have an assigned beneficiary. Vanguard made some changes and my listed beneficiary disappeared. I was able to re-add her, but what bothered me was that they didn’t even bother to tell me that they had caused this or that I needed to take action. These thi...

Re: TBills as "the best horse at the glue factory?"

What things do you not like? They have a joint account that need beneficiaries assigned, but have some rule or reason against being able to do that, or any kind of transfer on death. There doesn't seem to be any easy way around it other than making two individual accounts and splitting the money. I...

Re: TBills as "the best horse at the glue factory?"

I opened accounts at Fidelity and am starting the transfer process. $100 cash bonus for each account, which I won't complain about. My in-laws use Vanguard and I help them from time to time. There are certain things I immediately did not like. And whenever my mother in law calls, it is a 45 minute+...

Re: No surprise!

Comparing either party's history to their current versions is more than not useful, it's downright misleading. Whenever I hear someone refer to the GOP as the party of Lincoln, I think of Khalil Gibran, who wrote: Upon a day Beauty and Ugliness met on the shore of a sea. And they said to one anothe...

All I can tell you is that my Covid was about like you described. My memory was that yours seemed to be much more severe than mine? At this point I'm sneezing some and have a dry cough. Still doing everything I'd normally do. But glad today is not an exercise day. We will see how I feel tomorrow wh...

Re: TBills as "the best horse at the glue factory?"

Ally, Fidelity: $1 per bond commission if you’re just talking t-bills, Fidelity should be free. I think the $1 per bond is for CDs and non-treasury bonds. https://www.fidelity.com/trading/commissions-margin-rates You are correct, thanks! Any opinions out there on Fidelity vs. Schwab vs. Vanguard? S...

Re: TBills as "the best horse at the glue factory?"

So I'm trying to decide mentally if that $1 is worth moving my accounts for? With a face value of $1000 per bill, if I trade $100k of 13 week t-bills, that's $100 commission every 13 weeks. $100k of 13 week bills will payout (math ok?) about .0313/4*100k = $782.50 in a 3 month period. And I will lo...

I do dream of a bot that will clean up pages full of pastes and repastes of the entire convo. Or, you could just ask the few (one?) repeat offender(s) to stop doing it. ::) Good luck with that. Note that he said "convo", which I take to mean conversation. Therefore I believe there are several (many...

Re: No surprise!

I'm not sure comparing either party to their current versions is useful. They essentially began switching political spectrum sides in the 1890s and were fully "switched" by the time WW2 started. Our modern parties were created by and large between Kennedy and Reagan. This stuff isn't static and I w...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

So yesterday morning I woke up with the inkling of a sore throat. Saturday for 11 hours I'd been at The Big E - located in West Springfield, MA. It set it all-time attendance record that day. 177,000 people! It felt it. I've been going almost every year for over 40 years sometimes three times a day....

As far as his alleged biases go? He does have a PhD in history and the US Army did have him teaching the book's exact subject matter to cadets at West Point. He also, I believe, served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I'd say that by an unbiased view that he'd be considered creditable. PhD candidate.....

Still, signing up for the National Guard is a choice specifically entailed the risk of going to war...which is a far cry from just being a male citizen between 18-60 being pressganged into service with a couple weeks of training before going to the front. That article brings up some interesting sup...
