Re: Fed damaging bond market
I watched Options Action on CNBC and they all sounded confident that 112-114 will be the low in TLT, at least short term. That's about a 9% further loss.

Re: How to save money not part of your portfolio?
I make a comfortable salary and have low living expenses, and seem to have an excess of 1k-2k/month. I don't really want to invest this money, as there are some medium term goals I want to save for (3-5 years), but I"m not sure where to put the money in the interim. The tricky part is that I m...

Re: Stock market vs Fed
Fed policy has a significant impact on the economy and business which is why so much attention is given to what they do. The Fed can have a huge impact on the stock market but it's not like someone at the Fed is waving a wand or rubbing a lamp and saying "Stock Market go down" and poof it...

If The Stock Market Crashes Which Asset Will Save Us?
I'm looking at a market crash ahead. Which asset in the PP will save us? Also, any non PP assets, possibly like TBT?

Re: Fed damaging bond market
The new normal for bonds is that they become more and more about simply guessing at central bank moves, and less about real-world fundamentals because investors will turn elsewhere to express such views -- precious metals, various equity sectors, commodity baskets and so on. I don't know that we ne...

Re: Gold ETFs old and new
I bought PHYS years ago and dislike it but I don't want to pay taxes to switch out of it. I guess I'm stuck. PHYS is a Trust & therefore isn't taxed at the Collectibles rate: it is taxed like any other ETF. This is only true if you filed the proper paperwork with the IRS in the first year that ...

Re: Bitcoin and Taxes
Totally forgot to report a 2021 purchase I made with bitcoin given to me by Marc on this site once upon a time. Oops. I don't do my own taxes, but I happened to see it on the extra copy of my completed tax return. "Virtual currency." Oops. I'll need to fix that. I wish that I had your pro...

It feels like 2008 Again Only Worse
With skyrocketing fuel prices and an economy in deep stress, this is starting to remind me of 2008, with differences, of course. This should be where the PP earns it's keep. What do you think?

Big yawn until they start giving out Sony Trinitons again. I must be older than you are. Until inflation set in during the late 1960s, I recall that toasters and coffee pots were the "free" bank giveaway of choice. My folks got a Sony Trinitron TV from Crossland Savings Bank. It was very ...

My Tax Forms and GLDM
I own GLDM and just received my tax forms for 2021. Under "Proceeds from Broker and Barter Exchange Transactions" GLDM is giving off some kind of "Undetermined Term Transactions for Noncovered Tax Lots." They are listed as "Principal payments." I'm guessing that I have ...

Re: Are The Gold Miners A More Tax Friendly Investment?
mining stocks are so unpredictable. You could have a great mine that's functioning well and then the gov't slaps on some environmental taxes. Or you could have a junk mine that's lying about potential reserves. It's all a big mess and in no way an alternative to owning gold. The miners are one of t...
