Re: Moonshots

Lululemon is back down to around the same price as when I was looking at it a few years ago: two hundred dollars and change.

After touching as high $500 per share one point.

I'm really glad I don't speculate seriously.

Re: Good Small Cap Value Funds in 2024

Avantis seems to be the bee's knees right now when it comes to US SCV funds. This is not to say that other SCV funds from other firms such as Vanguard or DFA are bad, but they've grown in size so much that their concentration in their target factors has diminished as a result. As a Canadian my choic...

Re: Are you always taking a bath on at least one asset?

Burley: But you don’t feel that stocks are in a bubble? I’m always seeing bubbles everywhere. :) Smith: I agree. Once a person has some critical mass of gold, just set it aside and run a stocks/bonds/cash investment plan. I Shrugged: I 100% feel like stocks are in a bubble. But if I go too heavy in...

Re: Are you always taking a bath on at least one asset?

Some excellent discussion here folks. I'll chime in and add another perspective. Since the original HBPP thread on the Knuckleheads forum, people have occasionally brought up the issue of gold being rebalanced into oblivion during a currency crisis or hyperinflation. I've been cognizant of this as w...

Re: "U.S. Treasuries not the safe bet they once were"

I understand that perspective but don't necessarily agree.

The last time the U.S. defaulted on its debt was 1971, and the time previous to that was 1933. We often paint this narrative that these were simply changes or repudiation to the gold standard, but in reality, they were simply defaults.

I saw a letter in the newspaper which compared gold and bitcoin to the tortoise and hare characters in the fable. A guy from Chongqing.

Re: New Here - What are folks investing in

Hi Everyone, A few job changes over the last couple of years allowed me to roll over some employer-sponsored 401k's into a personal IRA that gives me a whole lot more freedom in terms of what I can invest in. As a result I jumped into the Golden Butterfly portfolio after reading about it here and o...

Re: "U.S. Treasuries not the safe bet they once were"

I agree that investors in general should question the basic assumption that U.S. treasury bonds are free of credit risk. (So hold gold.) On the other hand, I don't see a better alternative when it comes to having an asset that reacts positively to falling rates and deflation. Then again, I actually ...

My favourite local gold dealer has seen a large influx of people selling because of the high prices.

Still yet to find a Valcambi CombiBar retailing in my neck of the woods though. ::)

Long/Flat Commodities

Hey everyone. It's no secret on this forum that I'm a fan of long/flat commodity funds for the inflation portion of a balanced portfolio. My favourite index is the Auspice Broad Commodity Index. There are funds in both Canada and the U.S. that track this particular index (CCOM and COM respectively)....
