Global birth rates dropping as women have increasing access to contraception and education. People making a lot of noise about US immigration slowing this year. In 10 years with robots making cars and farming and building homes, what are people going to do. Most I know who were laid off or retired d...

Re: Harry Dent: ‘Crash of a Lifetime’ Coming in 2024
crash was 2007 when markets realized working age population peaked. China bailed us out a little, they bought up a lot of real estate, then they peaked in 2011 and their housing market kept running on air like wile coyote until 2019. then the epic bailout of 2020. question is what will cover the nex...

Bough a little PFIX. But I might be making a mistake, maybe I should simply hold less EDV.

Greeny praised the gold standard after leaving office too. He was paid millions to troll and I probly would've too. ergo term limits on all gov positions as power always corrupts. Even visionaries like Lee Kuan Yew pass power to their mediocre children. Trudeau was in power a decade and Greenspan ne...

Whats an easy cartoonish way to explain what PFIX does, in effect Instead of me loaning 10,000 to the government for 30 years for 5%, someone(?) is loaning me 10,000 for 30 years at 5%? So when rates go up I can park that money at a higher rate? But the fund also owns some treasuries and pays a smal...

Re: Trump Tariff Risks Are Fueling a Chaotic Hunt for Gold in London
Dust bowl and panic. Stock bubble burst at the end of roaring 20s. Bank runs and hoarding. Fed couldnt step in to extend credit to sound business because the dollar was gold backed. OTOH when the Fed can simply print you get other problems. We should get rid of interest rates on fully liquid account...

Rewatch Crocodile Dundee and compare it to Australia in 2020. With "toxically" masculine Trump the pendulum is swinging back a bit.

Thats why you dont want a centralized politburo planning the economy. Forcing price controls to hide inflation. Extending credit and grants to their friends industries. OTOH China had their economic miracle. But we saw how they handled the housing bust in 2020. They found a neat way to stop bank run...

Re: Moving up to 4.9%
Fed could buy directly from treasury to fund deficit. eg money supply +10%/year. If they step out of private markets eg stop buying mortgages and corporate bonds, a free market would want ~13% rates. You'd get 10% CPI and businesses might fail with those rates. Japan is rich and creates make-work jo...

Re: We should all write to our members of Congress and demand tax reforms
Everyone has their own definition, its a war of language. But "protectionist" tariffs and lower taxes has overlap with MAGA. Taxes on tips would not generate a lot income, especially after compliance/enforcement costs.
