Lol... somehow it feels strange to talk in all seriousness of 'burying a treasure' in your backyard

Re: Starting questions, cash and mortgage
I get that, but still hesitating; Isn't one of the 'rules' of PP to never invest with borrowed money? Isn't a mortgage just that? And thus; putting cash away instead of repaying the mortgage is kinda investing with leverage? Even with interest at 2%, repaying is still better than holding cash isn't ...

Re: Best ETF for Europeans
For the PP it's usually advised to use domestic stocks, in your case that probably means Eurozone stocks. In theory want the stock part of your portfolio to be tied to the same economy as the bond/cash part. By holding the MSCI World index your stock part might behave differently from the Eurozone ...

Re: Starting questions, cash and mortgage
Normally I would agree, however, this is a 'special case' where I got the mortgage not from the bank but someone close to me.
Interest is low, and repayments go directly to this person who can indeed benefit from it, but in this case that's a good thing

Re: Confused when to rebalance
That's all great info, thx! One of the important things for me is to automate everything as much as possible and keeping it simple. That way I can make sure it'll be a true passive portfolio in the sense that I'm not tempted to time the market or anything ;) So mostly fixed monthly (automated) contr...

Re: Confused when to rebalance
Another option is to contribute proportionally, that is, if you're at 30/20/25/25, then contribute in the same proportions. This is the option that prevents contributions from affecting the timing of your rebalances. I've never seen or thought of that before. What an interesting idea. I don't get ...

Re: Confused when to rebalance
I see a lot of backtests on results being done and reported on this forum, but is there also a backtest of results available on rebalancing in different ways? Using different bands, or frequencies? Would find that quite interesting to see what the impact would be on results I looked at the effect o...

Best ETF for Europeans
Being located in the Netherlands I don't have cost effective access to most Vanguard funds. Not for small additions at least, and I'd like to add to my position on a monthly basis automatically. This makes sure I don't have to think about the portfolio and can be truly 'passive'. The way I do it now...

What private safe do you use for gold/silver storage?
Just wondering which models are considered to be good. I know a lot of people own only 'paper gold' or store in a safe deposit box at the bank, but I'd like to store at least a part of the coins at home as well. Read a lot about different safes and the fact they are easily broken into (within minute...

Re: Starting questions, cash and mortgage
To clarify on the house/mortgage issue, it's undoubtedly true that a house is part of your all-in portfolio, and one of your assets. It's certainly a big freestanding chunk of wealth and capital. But how would you integrate such a thing into your investment portfolio? Generally speaking your invest...

Re: Starting questions, cash and mortgage
In addition to what Tyler said, here's an old quote from Tyler that I like: FWIW -- 66% of people take the standard deduction, making the mortgage interest deduction irrelevant. A lot of those calculators are deceiving, so make sure it applies you you. The results may look even better than that. ...

Re: Starting questions, cash and mortgage
Thank you for the replies and answers! What I find difficult to accept is to have the emergency cash being part of the portfolio, for now that is. I like keeping (liquid) cash available for covering something around 6 months living expenses. If I now would treat it as part of the portfolio, I'd have...

Starting questions, cash and mortgage
I've been interested in passive investing in general and the PP in specific for quite a while now, but only just recently started really going into it. I had bonds, stocks and cash, but no gold (or silver) yet and started buying that as well. However, I do have a few questions starting out; - (extra...
