Re: Which US State Will Be Last to Fully Reopen?

Bumping this thread to review our predictions. Looks like none of us got it right. The vast majority of us predicted CA would be last to fully reopen, but it reopened today (June 15), and five other states have yet to reopen. According to this site , the five states that haven't yet fully reopened a...

Gavin Newsom gives details on upcoming vaccine verification system Hopefully most CA businesses in places other than deep-blue San Francisco and L.A. will make the sane choice and decline to use Newsom's vaccine verification system, since using it would put them at a competitive disadvantage. I wil...

Re: Illiquidity of off the run treasury bonds

This other Investopedia entry claims that long-term investors typically get a better deal by buying off-the-run Treasuries since they avoid paying the “liquidity premium” of on-the-run Treasuries: https://www.investopedia.com/terms/o/on-the-runtreasuries.asp For what it’s worth, I’ve bought and sold...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

So if Sophie is correct and cases spike this winter, what is everyone's opinion on our response? Given that vaccinations will have been available for almost a year at that point, life returning to normal and also people seeing the aftermath of supply chain disruptions, labor shortages etc, does the...

Re: Why the Allies Won

As I recall, cryptography had a big influence on the war’s outcome. Many of the Allies’ top mathematicians (such as Alan Turing) were laser-focused on cracking codes at secret facilities like Bletchley Park.

Re: Lives Saved Since March 2020?

You can save even more American lives if you come to CA and wear your mask here for the next seven days. The pandemic is still raging here until June 15th, at which point the virus will disappear overnight and as a result Emperor Newsom will allow things to mostly go back to normal.

Re: Historical Periods of High Inflation: Interest Rates?

If CPI underestimates actual inflation now, did it also underestimate actual inflation back in the 1970s?

The historical charts of the real return of cash seem to rely on the accuracy of the government’s official measure of inflation.

In other news, based on the recent FOIA dump it would appear that Fauci is going down fast. But it's probably just as likely he'll be promoted. to borrow from tomfoolery .. he should get a raise as well... and if he gets thrown under the bus and blamed for the whole covid mess from funding to lock-...

From the article:
Castleman said he doesn’t know anyone who has contracted COVID-19.

“That doesn’t mean it’s not real, but it hasn’t affected me personally,” he said.
SomeDude, is your real name Castleman?

Re: COVIDs done, Vote On Next Major Issue

In Illinois, which can't print money, the major crisis is how to pay the pensions of well-to-do retired public workers. UBI won't fix it, but the Feds can do a bailout. Otherwise the problem frames as poor people vs. well to do retired people who vote the same way as the poor people. Quite a conund...

Re: COVIDs done, Vote On Next Major Issue

You forgot the Price Gouging Crisis.

Prices for almost everything are rising quickly due to greedy capitalists exploiting the wounded post-Covid economy that Trump stuck us with. Tackling that crisis will almost certainly require price controls and/or new regulations.

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

CDC now reports almost 3 million cases in ages 0-19 . There have been 30,000 hospitalizations in that age group. Though not "common", I would not define that as "extremely rare" either. https://data.cdc.gov/Case-Surveillance/COVID-19-Case-Surveillance-Public-Use-Data/vbim-akqf/data As some of us ha...
