Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

But today, consuming these resources in stationary generators on land to produce energy for buildings bypasses that major advantage and strikes me as the product of obsolete thinking. Now we have better options that are cheaper, more resilient, and require no vulnerable fuel supply chain: solar, wi...

This^^^ If the equation is as simple as banning guns = totalitarian dictator = millions ruthlessly killed, then we should all be watching Jacinda Ardern of NZ very closely. /s I assume "/s" means "end sarcasm". I'm not boglerdude , but I'll counter that banning guns may not be done by a totalitaria...

Re: What polcies can be done to prevent mass shootings

I'm wary to engage on this topic, but going to wade in and see how it goes :) Two questions for those seeking to "nibble at the edges" or in any other way curtail the right to bear arms (or any other right the government is explicitly forbidden from encroaching on): 1) Apply any limitations that alr...

Re: The GOLD scream room

What are people buying now to hedge inflation? I guess what I have seen is cars and houses maybe? It doesn't appear to me that many people are thinking about gold. Me personally: tractors, implements, log splitters -- productive tools. I've been pulling forward purchases when I can for items that w...

Re: The GOLD scream room

My 4x25 HBPP gold is about 28%. Should I rebalance at 30% or wait for possible 35%, as 15/35% my rebalance bands. I'm in the same boat/been wondering the same thing. I wish I had rebalanced out of bonds right after the COVID market shift as some here did, so hoping to take advantage the volatility ...

Not at all harsh. In fact, I appreciate your post, because I can’t tell what the lurkers out there are thinking. As a semi-lurker, I feel like this issue has been covered many times over the past several years, both with Budd and with Mathjak. Somehow they both end up coming back and dominating eve...

No opinion on iBonds per se, but I am strongly against the little optimizations . I think they are a distraction. I call it "optimizing the small". Local Optimizations for the mathematically inclined. They can make you feel like you are optimizing while you are actually doing nothing that will have...

Re: The PP, marginal utility, and investment "faith"

When I started with the PP I struggled with this for any asset allocation. This was for a high six-digit sum. My approach was to slowly buy into the position over the course of about 6 months. That let me test out my comfort level, get used to the increasing investment, and smooth out any risk of bu...

Re: Safe Withdrawal Rates

Stupid question, but how did you choose that (conservative IMHO) number - 3% - something that's tad less than the notorious 4% ? If I recall correctly 3% is even lower than the perpetual withdrawal rate of the classic HBPP. Is that your intention ? Not a stupid question at all. The short answer is:...

A market cap weighted strategy though? Good luck with that one... I just retired (early) at the end of October. Are you saying I'm screwed? :/ I can't help but feel my timing is the worst ever, as so many things are in flux - inflation, house prices (or cost to build - we're building), market volat...

My initial thought is "no", as at least the unit of measure (US dollar?) must not be in a bubble if everything else is?

Re: Staying the course with LTTs

Without the PP I would never have bought any long-term treasuries, and would have missed out on a lot. To be honest I have no idea how to tell when it's a bad idea to include them in the portfolio. Funny, without the PP I likely wouldn't have had as much equities exposure over the last 3-4 years. T...

I once had a vaccine passport. It wasn't called that, but it was a yellow passport sized booklet that listed my vaccinations for diseases in third world countries. I misplaced it at some point. It did function like a passport. I can't recall if I had to show it at borders, or send it to embassies i...

I actually would very much like to see a national sales tax implemented. Taxing consumption rather than income & savings makes a huge amount of sense. Perhaps one of the biggest things we can do to maintain some semblance of privacy is to use cash payment at retailers. I only use cash in restaurants / bars. By keeping cash alive, at least a small amount of privacy can be maintained. +1. It also keeps the banks from taking a cut of the transaction...
