Re: The Fourth Branch of Government

Does this mean it is only on hold in Texas? Or, in the entire country? Well, this was a federal district court, which is a federal trial court--analogous to a superior court on the state side. As such, its ruling has no precedential value and is binding only on the parties before it. The ruling wil...

Re: The Fourth Branch of Government

A federal district court judge in Texas just struck down Biden's student loan forgiveness program on grounds that it constituted an impermissible exercise of legislative power: "Whether the Program constitutes good public policy is not the role of this Court to determine. Still, no one can plausibly...

My apologies. . . I thought you were talking about buying stocks directly from the company, rather than through a brokerage.

Re: Non-ESG ETFs

The most thorough solution is to invest in individual corporate stocks. . . What dollar amount, generally speaking, is required to get into an individual stock? I've always assumed that a certain minimum is required for no better reason than to keep transfer agents from wasting their time on the "l...

Re: The Fourth Branch of Government

I seriously doubt that China made communism more appealing than the USSR. I think what makes communism appealing in this country is the still very vibrant class of innovators and producers who bust their hump to keep the show going. But for this highly productive class, whom it is assumed will alway...

I remain hopeful, and here's why: Today's young people are not anti-freedom. They love freedom, but in the context of their own narcissistic values, which, thanks to parental coddling, educational deprivation, and endless social safety nets, don't go much beyond the freedom to sleep until noon and t...

Re: I-bonds from tax refund

jhogue, you may have saved the day! I went back to the e-mail I received from Treasury Direct after creating the account, and the first digit of the account number was actually a letter. My eyes are so bad these days!

Let's see if that makes a difference!

Thanks, Barrett. You didn't directly answer my question, but you DID address the pressure I was feeling to get it done prior to October 31. I appreciate the reassurance that all may not be lost.

Could I trouble you guys for some help? I just opened a Treasury Direct account. After receiving an account number, I went to the "Log In" page. However, there is no place on the "Log In" page to insert your account number or password. Instead, the page asks you to choose between two buttons dependi...

His podcasts regarding the CoVid "emergency" (which subject has dominated his podcasts since early 2020) revealed a significant evolution of thought over the course of three years. To the best that I can recall, he started out in early 2020 as a cheerleader for the public health establishment, but b...

Well, well, well. It seems that the "true believers" of the democratic party are finally figuring out who their party really is. And it's an awesome thing to behold.

Surely you don’t really think that the DOJ consisted of “all Trump employees” during his administration, right? It's actually a coverup to protect Joe Biden. The DOJ will limit the investigation to Hunter, charge him with something relatively minor, proclaim "case closed", and declare any objections as thoroughly debunked wild conspiracy theories. That way they get to say it's been dealt with and it allows t...

Re: Question for Xan re Searching

Sorry to hear that Maddy. Were you going to do the 5 or 10 year hold and roll? If so, stick with your plan. It will work out over time. If that was too much risk you are finding out, then you may want to slide down to ITTs. You get most of the return and less volatility by quite a bit and it's clea...

Kbg, my market timing skills suck. Question for Xan re Searching

This morning I was wondering whether anyone here has been hedging LT treasuries with TBT. When I searched for "TBT," I got the response that the search term was too short to be recognized. I've encountered this before when I've searched for a thread discussing a particular ETF. Is there a workaround...
