Re: Question for Xan re Searching

Kbg, my market timing skills suck. In fact, I'm absolutely certain that it was my reluctant entry into long-term bonds--the one segment of the PP that I had been holding back on--that caused this whole fiasco. If you go back and look at the date of the thread where I discuss my intent to buy my firs...

Question for Xan re Searching

This morning I was wondering whether anyone here has been hedging LT treasuries with TBT. When I searched for "TBT," I got the response that the search term was too short to be recognized. I've encountered this before when I've searched for a thread discussing a particular ETF. Is there a workaround...

John Mackey has never been a 'leftist' Another head scratcher for me....why are natural and organic grocers and health food stores generally associated with left wing? Wouldn't conservative food practices look more organically Amish than Monsanto and syngenta? The natural foods movement was an outg...

Re: These are angry, woman-hating men

Don't let the cultural significance of this spectacle get lost in a debate over whether this guy is "for real" or not. If he's trolling, he's doing so only by virtue of the fact that the bizarre caricature he presents is culturally resonant among the "woke." And what it represents, unmistakably, is ...

Re: Commodity Stocks Getting Creamed

And commodity stocks in particular--why? This has the feel of 2007-08 all over again, when I was deeply into commodity stocks and took a severe beating that ultimately was the "come to Jesus meeting" that brought me to the PP. To this day, I have a number of those stocks (actually mostly ETFs, such ...

Re: Detailed data on college cost-effectiveness (Thanks, Obama)

It would be interesting to sort out whether it's the college, or the type of person to whom it appeals, that is driving the statistics. I'd guess it's the latter.

Commodity Stocks Getting Creamed

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what caused the carnage in commodity stocks today? Lordy. I used to belong to a number of trading-related discussion forums where I benefitted greatly from reading the market commentary in "real time." I no longer even remember their names. Are there any good ones...

Re: These are angry, woman-hating men

Funny how for so long it was only women's feelings that mattered. Now they're being told that they're "out."

That must be making some of perpetual women-victims a little crazy.

Re: These are angry, woman-hating men

I'm pretty sure it would be regarded as sexual harassment, which is ironic because the object of ridicule--boys and men--would more likely than not find it amusing. What self-respecting woman, on the other hand, finds it amusing to see a cartoonish representation of her body parts on a guy's mudflap...

These are angry, woman-hating men

You can't convince me that these "trans" folks who flaunt wildly exaggerated female stereotypes are anything but deeply angry men who get off on demeaning women. They're infantile little boys who harbor deep-seated resentment of women but who don't have the balls to actually beat one up. https://off...

Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

That much is pretty clear, given the caricature being painted of hypocritical hyper-consuming anti-work authoritarians who approve of centrally-controlled sources of energy production (???????). If I didn't know that you're a Walden-style hermit, I might recommend to stop spending so much time on R...

Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

And you feel they have authoritarian tendencies due to this championing of energy production reduction? And a third question on my part - so if we agree these ...

Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

I never said that we have to consensus on this subject or live the same way. But society has the right to draw guardrails around human behavior. In this example, what if your use of a wood stove pollutes the air unnecessarily, inefficiently expends resources, and degrades the local air quality? Fra...

On flip side, how would you respond to the argument that giving you the freedom to use a wood stove will result in pollution that they are forced to breathe? " Giving me the freedom?" I reject the whole notion that we have to come to a societal consensus on this point, or that everyone should be fo...

Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

You claim "those people" hold others in disdain . You believe this disdain is a bad trait, worthy of judgement. You hold of "those people" in disdain . What makes your disdain good while their disdain bad? You're not accurately portraying what I have said. I don't care one way or another whether "t...

Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

Again, I am not requiring anyone else to change their beliefs or to conform their behavior to suit me. I know this is a hard concept for those with a proclivity toward central planning who, upon discovering the truth du jour, automatically assume that the rest of the world should embrace it--if nece...

Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

Your assessment of those people seems very similar to this statement: They tend to view those who do not agree with them as ignorant and/or unwilling to see the truth. . As such how do you avoid this "identity trap" yourself? This is the "identity trap" described by Harry Browne. Other people are s...

It seems that you disagree with the folks described in #1+#2. So how do you view these folks that you disagree with? How does your concept of a pluralistic society address the existence of these folks? I'm not sure what you mean by this question. I view them with disdain, as people who take up more...

Re: Scarce and high priced energy in Europe

What's most obvious to me: (1) That there is a group of people who want to believe that there is a Garden of Eden in which every want can be fulfilled without any corresponding cost. These generally are NOT the people who live simple, low-impact lives. They want all of the perks of modern living, in...

[T]here has been an incredible failure of the media and those in positions of power to illustrate the true costs and deep corruption embedded in the use of wind and solar energy, specifically wind turbines. These costs range from unthinkable economic losses, immoral human labor usage, and an actual...

Re: Student loan forgiveness

The dems will look like scrooges soon enough when those students receive a $3,300 tax bill due on April 15 of next year. I wonder how those students who are unable to make even one monthly payment are going to handle that one. But the midterms will already have passed, so I guess it doesn't matter.
