Yes, I remember reading that it was in a nerve, not a vein, so thanks for the correction. Honestly, I don't really know the difference though.
No big difference. . . That's why Sophie does vascular surgery on the weekends.

Re: What's your favorite color?

Sophie, what kind of light do you need for a countertop garden? LED, fluorescent? How many watts? I've looked online at the various "grow light" options, and what appears to be most popular is a ceiling-hung set of LEDs in various shades of pink/purple. I think I'd go stir crazy if I had to make cof...

Re: Watching Wikipedia's extinction event from a distance

When you've got an entire generation for whom "truth" is a relative concept, and who are committed to making others believe as they do, what do you expect? It's not the glaring inaccuracies that trouble me; it's the subtle slants and the omission of critical facts that make Wikipedia a hotbed of dis...

Re: Antibodies

Some people just cannot accept that they have a high baseline level of anxiety or depression. There has to be a cause Being unable to discern an objective cause doesn't mean that one doesn't exist. Consider the enormous strides being made in the area of immunology. Who would have thought that much,...

Re: Vaccines

No--my strategy is to avoid the bugs to begin with. If I do begin to feel like I'm coming down with something, elderberry tincture + Vitamin C always seem to do the trick. I think I gave Sophie some angst a couple of years ago when, after falling on a barbed wire fence, I struggled with the question...

Re: What's your favorite color?

When I was first learning to read (ca. 1963), the phonics-based readers ("See Spot Run") often had little stories about "Mrs. Gray." In later life, I was always pretty good at spelling, but, try as I might, I never was able to shake that early learning experience. To this day, I have trouble remembe...

Re: Oxycontin

Lawsuit time. Another money grab by politicians, IMHO. Not the mfg's fault if people abuse their legal products. Legal, yes, but aggressively marketed without significant warnings about the risk of addiction. Who doesn't know that these drugs are addictive? Who isn't able to discern this risk for h...

Re: Countering medical cost myths

. . .I don't know really how this would enable patients to "comparison shop" when they're limited by their insurance plan to a small network of hospitals & doctors. Not to mention the layer of insurance between patients and the bills they pay. I'm going to stay optimistic. First, the astronomical d...

Re: What's your favorite color?

Sauerkraut is a cinch to make. If your only experience with it comes from a jar on the grocery store shelf, you've got a treat in store for you. When made fresh, it retains a wonderful crunch, quite unlike the soggy stuff that generally ends up on hotdogs. It's also being given some press for its al...
