Re: Help Finding Least Bad 401k option

you have to see the yearly disclosure sheet that is required to be mailed to see your actual costs . recently i pointed out to our cfo that our 401k actually had 10x the cost the funds show . he was sure our vanguard institutional shares on the index fund were dirt cheap . he never realized the actu...

Re: Anyone using the Permanent Portfolio as a second level emergency fund?

there are times when all assets move the same way , it’s not low volatility.

in 2022 it was down the same as most balanced funds at about minus 15%

Re: This is the best time in 45 years to invest in the Permanent Portfolio

I, too, must confess that I am no longer a user of the pure PP. There are just too many new developments, methodologies, investment paradigms, and considerations for me to warrant sticking with it. I follow the strategy in my avatar. I genuinely believe that this is not capitulation, but rather an ...

My All-Terrain Portfolio clocked in at 5.19% for the year. very interesting portfolio. those funds are not available thru fidelity but i guess if one wanted global coverage gld gold ibit bitcoin bndw. global bond vt global stock pdbc commodities and cash would work just fine . i always like trying ...

Re: Just made a purchase at 5.088 for 30 year LTTs

because there are better ways today to get on deflation in lower risk portfolios with much better risk to reward profiles then the pp has proven to provide. in more modern times.

odds of deflation are also very slight . certainly i would never bet the same money on deflation as i would prosperity

nope , long term bonds are not a place i want to be.

i am finding there are far better defensive portfolios using leveraged risk parity

Re: Just made a purchase at 5.088 for 30 year LTTs

IMHO using LTT's at all in these circumstances makes no sense. What about insurance for a deflation? If bond interest rates drop significantly, LTT could provide an outsized payoff. it reminds me of waiting so long for the ship to come in that the pier collapses . like peter lynch said , Far more m...

so far it is proving to be exactly the way to go as a conservative investor . it has performed admirably where other supposed portfolios like the pp and all weather dropped the ball. all results include all expenses. evd is centered around 20-30 year exposure, tyd is centered around 7-10 year bonds ...

which is why i went back to 2020 in my look originally as to how it behaved in both covid and the rising rates and inflation which crushed conventional portfolios. others have looked at it too https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-WZDwcF8/0/DfNGGTksPgc4xXrsnsPg3QD4krmHqNfGQ9pbsqkQW/L/i-WZDwcF8-L.jpg a...

Re: This is the best time in 45 years to invest in the Permanent Portfolio

yep , i believe its day came and went for conventional investing …2022 showed us how vulnerable the pp is to rates and inflation and a strong dollar unlike the 1970s with all the once in a lifetime events for gold i believe for someone who wants a defensive portfolio today there are far better risk ...

Re: This is the best time in 45 years to invest in the Permanent Portfolio

depends on the bond funds held and their duration as far as how bad they would get hit. a leveraged risk parity portfolio performed very differently in the 2022 down turn as well .. it had better returns , lower risk , less draw down then the pp did. i posted the carolina reaper results above which ...
