The Ruger 10/22 is favored by Israeli military snipers. They used the standard one (10 round capacity, I Shrugged), but it looks like they've upgraded to a higher capacity version.
i have the 10/22 target version with the bull barrel , 5 shot clip though

Re: US gun classifications explained. Funny, true, and sad.

If you want to see strange and conflicting you have to see what is allowed here in nyc …. A ruger 10/22 with the standard clip is on the banned list

Re: mathjak's daytrading adventures

This regular person didn’t own those until almost 25 years later after selling my house . since the time frame being referred to has nothing to do with this time frame your comment is irrelevant .. the 1970s were financially tough and it was hard to find money to invest. It was living hand to mouth ...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

Screen Shot 2021-05-05 at 11.02.12 AM.png Actually, since I'm well into the drawdown phase, a portfolio of about 10% cash and 90% VTINX would seem to meet my needs and comfort level. Very possibly, but VTINX along with all of the other Vanguard Target Retirement and LifeStrategy funds has significa...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

That is a fine choice …. Mentally though I find it hard to do something as a long term plan that I am not believing in so keeping the pp intact at all is not going to be a longer term plan ….. If anything it worked better for me with components of the pp being the variable portfolio and not the perm...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

I will now return to lurking the forums..... Good to hear from you dockingGA. Feel free to post more, the greater the number of participants the better! The great thing about the PP concept is that if you think you can do better than the 4X25% portfolio, you can implement a Variable Portfolio. Math...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

I would not go by anything that happened in the 1970s ..it is a different world today with rates near zero and stock valuations at all time highs ..we have high speed trading not related to economic conditions , we have more choices to bet against markets , Bitcoin and crypto too ,and a whole lot mo...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

People like to defend the pp with all these anti stock charts or assumptions about time frames while ignoring the biggest . A 40 year bull in bonds has given the pp a wind at its back that may not be duplicated with rates already near zero. I would sooner bet on equities for the long term having gai...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

You certainly can bet on what you like … But personally I like to go with what was, what is and what stands a reasonable chance of continuing and allocate my money in that order …eventually even a crash would still leave you with a bigger balance most likely then waiting for the proverbial crash ..w...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

Okay let me explain . A typical accumulation stage pre retirement can run 25-40 years …I would only be 100% equities . Now as we approach within ten years of retirement we enter what kitces calls the RED ZONE … That is the most dangerous point in our lives …we have our investment fuel tanks full and...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

Well it has been a mistake then expecting a crash year after year . Even 2008 was a non event for a long term investor …if you are not a long term investor then any investment is timing it … the shorter the time frame the greater pressure on the investment time frame . Long term to me is at least te...

Re: Why not use QQQ instead of VTI?

Qqq is to undiversified in faang for me to ever replace a diversified fund like an s&p or total market fund …I would use it the same way I may a add a bit of alpha with an extended market fund as an add on .

But never as a replacement

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

i never recommend anything but 100% equities for accumulation ... so let me state that first . there has never been an accumulation period which spans decades that ever made sense for a long term investor to worry about mitigating short term temporary dips and hurting long term returns by using miti...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

The proverbial next crash ….. More money has been given up or lost in preparation for all these next crashes than has been lost in crashes themselves … My opinion is Tlt is going to do more damage then it helps…it will likely wipe out any traction the other assets manage to get .. This ain’t the ol...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

Buy high and sell higher has made far more money for investors . The problem with buy low sell high is no one knows where low is . In 2008 we all thought low was when we lost 2000 points ..who knew we had 6000 more to go .. So many bailed and sold ….or they sold because stop losses were hit . Odds a...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

I was 100% equities from 1987 to 2007

In 2007 we bought a house in the poconos and thought we would retire earlier than we did .

Once we decided we didn’t want to retire in the poconos there was no reason to retire earlier since we both liked our jobs but I did get the portfolio toned down 65/45

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

We ain’t any other place but america …i will continue to bet on America… As far as the other assets go , meh , I think once again staying less interest rate sensitive is the way to go or you are betting to much on interest rates. Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

What you end up doing is what happens to those who wait for the proverbial crash to buy stocks …they wait so long that they gave up more than they could ever get .. Plus if you are waiting for that flight to safety you are going to be timing to grab that gain because as we know as soon as the smoke...

Re: Permanent Portfolio concept continues to live on

Paid to wait ? You may wait so long for the lower interest rate ship to come in the pier collapses …. Unless rates fall which may not happen there is no paid to wait ..the last cycle took 40 years. What you end up doing is what happens to those who wait for the proverbial crash to buy stocks …they w...

Re: mathjak's daytrading adventures

The fact is that your investment time frame stands alone in terms of exceptional returns on stocks and bonds...and that experience colors the entire investment industry's perceptions regarding appropriate asset allocation.
