Political risk and EU Permanent Portfolio

I am in the process of building my EU Permanent Portfolio, and since I live in one of the small countries, I am thinking of buying Germany bunds directly. However, I was rereading the PP book (Craig R. and J.M. Lawson chapter on bonds and started thinking about the political risk mentioned there. As...

Re: What happened after the Great Depression to the trend-follower

So following the trend is better because it worked that one time?
What type of portfolio was that? Was it diversified between at least, stocks and bonds?

Re: I can't handle it!

I have chosen to invest all-in on the best mutual fund/hedge fund/interest fund/commodity that has had the best performance for the past year. Of course I could just stay invested and save on a monthly basis without regards to the current market. However, I reason that it is quiet stupid to have mo...

Re: EU PP - what if my country exits the Euro?

Hi, do you think that gold and some cash shall be physical ? An US-PP in a US broker would provide some additional safety? Regards From what I've read, at least some portion of your gold should be physical Yes. I would trust a portion of my portfolio to a US Broker, but as I said before, I don't th...

Re: EU PP - what if my country exits the Euro?

Hello, a) where will you keep the gold? b) bonds and stocks work together on the PP. I am not sure that mixing is better. c) Why not a US-PP outside? in a US broker a) If you listen to some podcasts where Craig has been, he talks about option for people like us who want to own physical gold. I thin...

Re: EU PP - what if my country exits the Euro?

@Frugal Off course the assets are mine. In general, I want no assets in any currency. But because there are a lot instability factors affecting the EU, I feel one must not rest on the Euro, as a 100% safe currency. Specially people like us, who are in the "bad" countries. Just a clarificat...

EU PP - what if my country exits the Euro?

I have been thinking about Equity splitting in the EU PP, and I thought something like your solution. However, I am confused whether I should Hedge agaisnt currency risk or not. I mean I don't know if only a few countries would leave the currency or if it would just cease to exist (doesn't seem very...

Hum... who do I trust more to know about public health? Doctors or the God Oh Mighty parents?

Dude go read about the diseases that are coming back because some parents believe in the same stuff you believe.

Re: No where to hide

I think gold will be quiet for about the same amount of time as  there are to many other options today for betting against good times . Do you really think the financial markets changed that much since 2008 when gold started skyrocketing? Do you really trust yourself that much to notice a major cha...

Re: The Pink Elephant in the Room

A bond incorporates different types of risk. When I see a 30 year german bond yielding 1,5% (or something like that), maybe it has more to do with an expectation of increasing interest rates or inflation then with actual credit risk.

Re: European bond collapse

My first venture into the European bond market has not gone well. I am down about 20% in 2 months, in what was supposed to be allocation to a quality bond holding. I would understand if it was a leveraged product, but its not (IBGL; its a long bond ETF). I know its wrong to try and time the market,...

Re: European PP: Investing in U.S. stocks too?

Out of the 25% of stocks, I am thinking about investing 20% in EU stocks and 5% in the S&P500. I don't trust the eurozone 100% and that is why I am thinking of tilting a bit to US stocks. Another thing that is harder for us european is to find data for some of the ETFs or even the underlying ind...
