Re: 100% stocks
I don't see what's wrong with 100% stocks as long as you aren't looking at it and don't need it for 20+ years. Right now I have a retirement account that is 85% stocks 15% bond fund, but in reality, this 15% provides minimal diversification, as the 15% barely moves during stock downturn. While &qu...

Re: 20% annual returns over 40 years...interested?
One small suggestion...spend some time looking into how a trend will impact 3x ETF performance and what a non-trend will do to it. As a general rule for this version of a PP VP I recommend fewer transactions rather than more. You want to let natural market forces drive the various instruments to ex...

KPG, I am about -4% since April, and using TMF, UGLD, SPXL/EDC, with no cash. For a "risky" leverage, it's not doing to badly.
I have been putting in money every month and allocating based on whichever fund is down, which has helped.

Re: Permanent Portfolio in the middle east
OK. What I might do then is basically have a US centered Portfolio since the UAE dirham is tied to the US dollar. AUD dollar is cheap now, so technically it would be better investing in AUD dollars since my effective US denominated salary would buy more shares, but things could change with currenci...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in the middle east
If you're hoping to time your real estate purchase to coincide with deflation caused by boomers selling their houses so they can pay for a humiliating and dehumanizing last couple of years in a nursing home, I think you might have a ways longer to wait. Right now a lot of boomers are still in the m...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in the middle east
My advice is to consider a house a consumption item, not an investment. When you look at it this way, all of the sudden a lot of really affordable housing options appear unless you live somewhere with an insane real estate market, which is all the more reason not to buy into it as a place to live. ...

Currently: $50k in an Australian Superannuation retirement fun (100% australian/international equities) $5.5k in an offshore investment plan ($1800 being added to monthly) (85/15 equity/bond split) $35k in savings currently waiting to invest in a trading account (and add approximately $2k per month)...

Re: Why do you use the PP?
I want to use the PP because I am living as an expat overseas. My plan is to buy a house/relocate to Australia. I have my retirement money in mostly equities since it is being invested for 30+ years, and can ride out the volatility. Because when I decide to move to Australia, I don't know what th...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in the middle east
I most likely will be immigrating to Australia. That is the plan. My intention is to use the PP to save to buy a house.AnotherSwede wrote: Where will you live in 10 years or in retirement?

Permanent Portfolio in the middle east
I am currently living the middle east (UAE) and interested in setting up a Permanent portfolio. There are some unique conditions here, and would like advice of how to have a permanent portfolio in this environment. - UAE/middle east economy is small and un-diversified (mainly banks and real estate)...

Re: 20% annual returns over 40 years...interested?
Thanks for you quick response, will read those posts. I do understand that it is a function of trailing period, which is why I looked at various time periods. Where are you getting those values from? I have looked at 1-year standard deviation on portfolio visualizer, and 200-day volatility on etfd...

Re: 20% annual returns over 40 years...interested?
I have read this whole thread it has been fascinating, and a wonderful education. As I have just taken up stock investing this year, learning about the HBPP has been great in its simplicity and clarity of having a well-rounded portfolio, however as a younger investor with time on my side, I like th...
