Re: Largest College Admissions Scam Includes Hollywood Actresses and Coaches

It's not TOEFL Recall, it's DOFU Recall (DOFU = TOFU) http://www.pbs.org/food/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/2011/10/mapo-tofu-hp-288x162.jpg That is a very Chinese joke. Not everyone will get that, but I appreciated it. I thought DOFU Recall was the burnt-in memory from the first time you ate Stinky...

Re: Tactical Asset Allocation + HBPP an intriguing combo

Not sure, I will run my data and do what it says to do. Over the past two months there has been a lot of research using the basic GEM methodology and measuring momentum. Personally I have been convinced by it that having a single signal is not a good long-term strategy. I have moved to 10 different...

As long as your primary motivation is to give your kids a better life, then breaking laws and cheating the system is okay isn't it? Isn't that the message we are all being sent by our immigration policy? I nominate jacksonM's comment as post of the year. So true. It's okay for poor people to do it,...

Re: Will Trump be Re-elected?

Just one quick comment: if you had one onerous administrative task to do many times a day, but that task involved up to 50 different forms, sets of rules, procedures etc that varied case to case requiring a huge administrative layer to sort through, what would happen if those were reduced to just o...

Re: Will Trump be Re-elected?

High speed rail is a standout. If it would really cost less than 4 trillion to lay down a national network of passenger rail track and buy high speed trains, then we should be doing this already. The only intercity passenger rail track in existence in the US right now is the Northeast Corridor (Bos...

Re: Health Care Reform

If you're self-paying I assume you're talking about routine office visits and labs - but realize you're still paying for the insurance-imposed bureaucratic structure that surrounds these visits nows. Definitely agree that putting these outside the purview of insurance would reduce their costs and e...

Re: An excellent article on TDS

I have to agree that any gender wage gap exists simply because of other confounding effects such as those listed by drumminj. Suppose for a minute that there was a wage gap, don't you think greedy business owners would see the arbitrage opportunity in the labor market and only hire women to squeeze ...

Re: Tactical Asset Allocation + HBPP an intriguing combo

Tax efficiency aside...if you are trading this system you have to pay attention once a month anyway so the 5mins extra to make the trade doesn’t seem to be too onerous. I guess that is my issue, unfortunately 30% of my portfolio is not tax advantaged. It seems like if tax efficiency is not an issue...

Re: Tactical Asset Allocation + HBPP an intriguing combo

Kbg - I agree that the 3 month lookback is diluted when you ensemble 3, 6, and 12 month lookbacks. This appears to be because the 6 and 12 month lookbacks both vote similarly, so they simply outvote the 3 month 2-1. That said, at least ensembling reduces trading volume, while averaging models as you...

Re: Tactical Asset Allocation + HBPP an intriguing combo

Being lazy, gun-shy, and fully prone to trader's remorse as I am, now I'm circling back to looking at 12 month as a very well proven durable lookback, but "ensembling" (good word) 10 11 12 13 14 months together to cancel out short-term noise. 19 trades in 21 years. I'm down with that. This in not a...

Re: Tactical Asset Allocation + HBPP an intriguing combo

So I tested the GEM with 4 6 8 10 12 month lookbacks contributing to the signal, equal weights, normalized per Portfolio Visualizer, CAGR 11.48% from 1998-2018. If you trade five separate tranches at the end of each month, 4 6 8 10 12 months, then you give up about 1% in return. And I don't have a ...
