Re: Why the big move in gold?
Really moving now, nice. ATH closes for month, Q4, and year would be really a good sign.

Monthly ATH in gold was $2009, it's now $2013... Let's see if it does its usual faceplant by the close on November 30 !

Re: Javier Milei, Argentina, wants to Dollarize their economy?
It's ironic given that Argentina means "silvery" or "silver-colored". If they pursued their namesake, they'd peg the Argentine dollar to Argentum (AG). That's a pipe dream, isn't it?
Re: Gold peg
Our government is captured by special interests who want short term bennies and who don't care about the LT survivability of the United States.

Javier Milei, Argentina, wants to Dollarize their economy?
How is that going to happen? Which of the three will he be willing to sacrifice? I think he'll try to keep all three, and it will be a failure. Wasn't the problem with Greece that they took out loans which they then had to pay back with real money (Euros) and not monopoly money (Drachma)? Had they s...

What I discovered: USPS Registered Mail up to $250,000 per shipment available coverage FedEx Express First Overnight between the two Express Stations from origin to destination (but it's not insured, so it's a bit of a Hail Mary --- tranche it?) Re: High cost gold depositories are you giving your gold away
The real issue I suppose is how does an old person get gold across the country from one safe deposit box to another if relocating to be closer to kids and possibly going into assisted living? That elder isn't going to drive... I don't think they want to take, say, 60 oz of gold through TSA checkpoin...

Why not wait until Dave Enna's mid-April opinion about I-Bond rates? They might go up.

High cost gold depositories are you giving your gold away
I was considering using a depository to shield my gold from taxable events while keeping it safe in my old age and cognitive decline. The one in question charges 0.5% per annum. I did a present value analysis of the fees over time, even just assuming gold only grows with inflation, the fee harvests ...

Re: I-Bond fixed rate rises to 1.3%, highest in more than 16 years
Sadly, I spent my $10,000 already for 2023. I think April - May is time to buy... the Fed dot plots, if you believe them, show an easing into late 2024. But... we're probably going to be humiliated nonetheless.

Did gold hit an ATH on a monthly basis? If so, that's important.
PS - I think it came close but didn't hit it.

Re: Small Cap Value seems cheap at the moment
Maybe the point now is to get into microcap value which is basically not tradeable for the big ETF makers. Things like the AAII Shadow Stock Portfolio, where you buy and mostly hold 30 microcap stocks. There is some turnover every quarter, but it's like 2-3 per quarter. So 8-12 per year... 1/4 to 1/...

Re: I Thought Gold Would Fare Better in 2022-23
Since July 31, 2021, gold is -2% and TLT is -47%. That's a really good argument for having gold. And now, gold is starting to buck the ten year real yield. There is scant argument to be made for a 90 y.o. person to hold stocks, but in addition to bonds I bought GLDM for my Mom, and looking back, I a...

I'm going to buy 30 year bonds when I turn 65 and forget about them and resolve to be happy with the coupon for the rest of my life. No more TLT. Just the bonds.

Re: I Thought Gold Would Fare Better in 2022-23
I realize now that all of the conventional inflation narratives around gold are BS. "Gold responds to inflation" - August 2020 until now really disproves that.

Re: Why the big move in gold?
I have my $1300 gold, 10% of portfolio, but OMFG too many miners bought in 2020. I should have stuck with 100% bullion. Damn miners. But I'm holding. I'll sell them in a few years if they don't pop.

Did anyone go to this session? I could not, but the author posted an article in the AAII Newsletter, plain text excerpt below. It backs up the Golden Butterfly results. There was much more written. Here is the entire journal for that month from my Google Drive . ------------------------------------...
