Re: Cash as an inflation hedge
Good article confirming Tyler’s view that cash is greatly under appreciated as an inflation hedge. : https://www.morningstar.com/articles/1099412/cash-as-an-inflation-hedge-revisited?utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=linkshare&utm_source=link So long as it is understood this is relative. I also thin...

Re: Absolutely brutal - 5/5
I need to remember where I got my data and see if I can run those numbers again...just by the math of it (using PV monthly returns) I'd be a bit surprised if daily data didn't at least show low 20%s. The site I (and many others) used to use was peaktotrough.com but that stopped updating years ago. ...

Re: Absolutely brutal - 5/5
Data check...both MachineGhost and I, using daily data, reported in the past that the max dd of the PP is in the high 20s something percent. PV has it at 13% using monthly data. I think the thing that surprised me most about the PP was how cyclical/countertrending its performance is. In other words,...

Re: Absolutely brutal - 5/5
Bitcoin is just too young and Harry was wise. Even though he would probably have been fascinated by it, I can’t imagine that he would have recommended crypto to investors depending on his sage advice, let alone telling people to put in in a portfolio of “money you can’t afford to lose.” Bitcoin sup...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II
… It's pretty obvious Putin thought Ukraine would be easy. I think that was the overriding factor, but the NATO/EU expansion factor surely weighed heavily in the decision to invade. … Have you seen Putin’s own speeches about how he’s Peter the Great? I saw something about that. Again with the media...

Here's a very good article on the Ron Paul Institute website explaining all the things the US got wrong about Ukraine: http://ronpaulinstitute.org/archives/featured-articles/2022/june/20/some-hard-thoughts-about-post-ukraine/ We're being led by a bunch of fools, but it's been that way going back ma...

60/40 on left, PP on right. Since 1987 cuz that's when we have a US Total Bond market index. Things I like to look at are bolded. Comparing with 2022 performance thus far... there is exactly nothing out of the norms Y'all are arguing over a nothing burger. Arithmetic Mean (monthly) 0.74% 0.55% Arith...

This one isn't even hard...naval convoy. Is there risk, yes. Do I think the Russians would blink, also yes. If I'm wrong and the headlines are correct about the third world starving...well maybe we shouldn't let the world go hungry and throw some punches back if a convoy was attacked. The optics her...

Re: Absolutely brutal - 5/5
I've been feeling worse about my paper gold lately. I really question the value of it at all. I fear that I'm largely deceiving myself by thinking my gold allocation is where it is. If we want the risk/returns of paper assets, then stocks fit the bill. If we want SHTF insurance, an off-the-books-as...

Don’t know how good the poll was…apparently 2/3rds of Americans now support tighter gun control laws…highest ever.
As posted earlier…if you value the second amendment school shootings can not be ignored.

Sounds good…context, the US was going through a billion a day in Iraq and things are way more intense in Ukraine. I don’t have any references at hand, but there are some good academic studies on gold. Stay away from studies from purveyors of gold however.

Me too!
And of course I would have sold last year.
I’ve never been a hater of it as a speculative venture. I’ve said that repeatedly. Obviously I’m skeptical of the rationale behind its “value” and I don’t see much of a future for what it has been promoted as.

Re: What polcies can be done to prevent mass shootings
Admittedly, modem man, forced by technique to become in reality and without residue the imaginary producer-consumer of the classical economists, shows disconcertingly little regard for his lost freedom; but, according to Ellul, there are ominous signs that human spontaneity, which in the rational...
