Re: Covered Call Opinions

Yes. There are those outlier events that would limit your upside in that case. But since I am not a trader in gld, assuming the rise wasn't enough to trigger rebalancing bands, that gain is on paper, and two days later when Russia withdraws, gld drops back. In the meantime I have real gains from the...

Covered Call Opinions

**Sorry for the long post** I wrote covered calls >10 years ago, trying to find the highest premiums, and bouncing from stock to stock. Worked well for a while until the financial crisis and I was left holding stocks I really did not care about that were severely underwater and I was terrified to wr...

Re: I Bonds for Permanent Portfolio

It was an easy decision for me and my wife. 20k late last year, 20k early this year, so 40k at 7% for $2800 yearly compared to the money previously sitting in an Ally savings account at 0.5% for $200 a year. And it did take <10 minutes. But I certainly understand not wanting to open up more accounts.

Re: Electric Vehicles and Tires

I just saw the Netherlands are building two tractors to support their green agenda, which is great, imo. Is your sentence correct as written? Two tractors? :o. Or is your sentence in jest? I interpreted that as two MODELS of tractor. Could be wrong. Shit...bleary eyed post in bed. Reactors! Nuclear...

Re: Electric Vehicles and Tires

Wait, isn't that the whole point of electric? Less greenhouse gases because the electricity comes from a cleaner, and possibly 100% clean source vs gas/oil? I certainly understand your point. On the flip side both my daughters would fall into the accelerate slow save the planet side. I am somewhere...

Re: Electric Vehicles and Tires

I am sure there are lots of people who buy electric not for 0 to 60 performance, but to help save the planet, and if you tell them they can get more miles on the battery and tire by accelerating slower, absolutely some would.

Re: Schemes for maximizing cash returns

How's this for a scheme? You buy CDs using a 2% cash back credit card and you instantly have a 2% tax free return. I know someone who's been doing this for years. You're talking about certificates of deposit, not compact discs, right? How do you buy CDs (the certificates) with a credit card? I did,...

Re: Schemes for maximizing cash returns

I've been selling weekly 5 delta OTM covered calls on my holdings. With Interactive Brokers you can bring up one of their option tools and pick a delta and display its associated annualized yield. It's a lot of trading every Monday morning. With calls that far out assignment is rare. I've been assi...

Re: PFFD Dividend ETF

I used money market as a comparison on the yield, not on the safety, sorry.

If I were to invest in something like PFFD, it would replace a percentage of my VTI holdings, not my cash.

But...you guys did a pretty good job of scaring me away from this! Thanks.

PFFD Dividend ETF

Wondering on anyone's thoughts on ETFs like PFFD, currently 5.03% yield, https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/PFFD?p=PFFD&.tsrc=fin-srch Amazingly stable, other than a sharp drop in Mar 2020. 0.23 expense ratio. There are others I am looking at, PGX, SPFF, DIV, SDIV (others??) I've said a few times here,...

Re: 2022 PP predictions

Wow no joy anywhere here! Only thing I would say is if talk of rates hikes shave a few thousand points more off stocks, that talk will change quickly. Stocks, Gold, LTT: All Up I do believe the pandemic wanes, and things continue to get more normal there, but as we get closer to Nov, everything is g...

As is my history, everything sold today continued way up, everything bought, way down. This. Is. Why. I. Don't. Trade. Ooh, and at least for a couple days, I look like a friggin genius by selling stocks to rebalance. Of course gold and silver got slammed too, but my covered calls on them at least w...

I just rebalanced everything for 2022. Takeaway, a good amount of stock sold, rebalanced with buying of gold and a lot of silver. TLT was relatively flat comparatively. Ah, I was just going to ask if anyone was rebalancing with the big run up in stocks in 2021. Today looks to be as good as any to s...
