Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

Was searching for something and landed in the Coronavirus General Discussion thread.
What a trip.

Above Vinny’s post should be glennds’s post. This is Glenn’s full post. I went to quote it and it got zapped. Don't have an answer. Maybe find a friend or a friend of a friend in the UK you could ask? Then again, if erosion of civil liberties is of interest, you can find plenty of it right here at h...

Then again, if erosion of civil liberties is of interest, you can find plenty of it right here at home (U.S. that is). Erosion of rule of law is hot this season too.

Re: Short-Term Bonds in the Permanent Portfolio: Still Worth It After 10 Years?

It doesn’t get any shorter than cash. Short-term bonds can be 3 months, for example. They can go down in value. A money market fund tries to keep Net Asset Value (NAV) at $1. And, except in extreme cases (google “breaking the buck”), that’s where it stays. I think. If I got that wrong, please chime ...

What’s going on in the UK?

Every day I see news about people getting arrested for social media posts, but Muslim immigrants given a pass for assembling and shouting about how they want Sharia law in their new home country. Is this right wing propaganda or is it real? I can’t tell, because I don’t know what news sources are re...

One thing that I think would really help is to revamp the sticky threads under each asset. I mean the links don't go anywhere, right? If someone finds their way here, shouldn't they be able to read about some of the basic PP philosophy. For example, what if the Permanent Portfolio Discussion sectio...

Re: Short-Term Bonds in the Permanent Portfolio: Still Worth It After 10 Years?

Honestly, you can only tell in the rear-view mirror. Take my vp: it’s full of 10-year treasuries and some shorter term US treasury notes. Now, of course, I like looking at it ( at that part of it) this week as stocks get hammered. However, most of the time, I think about how my dad just kept everyth...

Another reason I suppose I knew in the back of my mind, Seajay, that you are not Mohamed El-Erian, is that you have certain idiosyncracies. For example, you rarely, if ever, use the indefinite article ‘an.’ Of course, maybe you’re just being crafty, and only avoid using it when you’re “Seajay.” I’m ...

Gold’s price rise recently pushed my % of (pp+vp) to 9+. That is, gold is more than 9% of my total.
Tomorrow morning, it will be well into 10% for the first time, even though gold has come down.
