Re: Real Estate in the PP

Is the leveraged aspect of real estate what's problematic for the PP?  That would make sense to me. I like REITs and I use them now but they seem like basically another kind of stock.  When the stock market goes down REITs do too.  I know the correlation is generally less than with other stock funds...

Re: Buying Physical Gold

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think that since they're the most popular I'm just going to buy Gold Eagles.  The other thing I realized is that even with the premium I'll pay above spot price I'll still save money over the long run vs. my ETF.  IAU, which I use, has a .25 expense ratio which ne...

Re: Real Estate in the PP

PS: As far as rebalancing goes my initial thought would be to own a REIT as well and use that for rebalancing.  I know that REITs are not identical to real estate but it seemed like the easiest way to do it.  Tyler: I think I'm ok with a VP in theory and I'd like to be able to take on some risk for ...

Real Estate in the PP

Hey everyone. I think I understand the PP well enough to answer this question but I though I'd toss it to all of you who are far more experienced than I am.  If I wanted to buy real estate for an investment (as a rental property) where does that fit into the PP?  Is that solely a VP investment?  Wou...

Buying Physical Gold

Hey all.  I don't post on here a lot but I read from time to time.  Thanks up front for all the feedback. I think I've reached the resolve soon to buy physical gold.  Honestly it seems like such a crazy move for me.  I don't mean to offend anyone but it feels at times that I've somehow joined an und...

Role of Gold in a Portfolio

Hey friends, After posting a few questions on here a few months back I'm starting to drift into the PP.  As I've read and done research I came across this study online: http://www.goldbullionstrategyfund.com/files/131023-gold-whitepaper-final.pdf I'm not qualified enough to know if the interpretatio...

Re: Considering PP; have questions

Thanks friends. This helps a lot.  I think I'm just jittery.  I'm feeling better about the cash, bonds, and stock part of things.  If it was just 33% each of stocks, bonds, and cash this would basically be a conservative Bogleheads AA (although probably too conservative for them).  I think gold is t...

Re: Considering PP; have questions

Thanks everyone for your feedback.  It's really helpful.  I don't have the time to comment on everyone's posts but I have a few thoughts below and a few new questions: Politics Ok, you're right.  I can see how the PP would not necessarily be a libertarian-friendly AA since it is relying heavily on g...

Considering PP; have questions

Hey everyone, I'm a total newbie to the PP and by new I mean I don't use it (yet?).  I've done some reading and have some questions that maybe could help me transition (at least partially) to the PP.  I'm sorry if these questions have already been addressed in the past - I tried searching the forums...
