Re: Basic Question: Dividends/Interest for ETFs and Index Funds?
Thank you for your answers, which may not answer my question. :( Could you see my original question again? I think I was quite clear what I asked. I re-read it. That is; I am not asking about taxes for aliens and brokerage recommendations; see the highlighted part. Thank you. [Not my main question ...

Basic Question: Dividends/Interest for ETFs and Index Funds?
Disclaimer: I am European, aiming for a US based Portfolio; no home country bias here. For the sake of simplicity consider I am a US-based investor, but for even more simplicity I can or I want to access only ETFs and index funds. The basic function of owning shares in a company, for Warren Buffett ...

Re: Financial benefit of reading Ben Graham's book knowing Warren Buffett's alpha?
Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't index funds unavailable in Graham and Buffett's heydays? If so, generating even an alpha of 0 by buying 10 stocks rather than 500 (from the S&P 500) would be a win in my book. Sure, an interesting historical fact, but now we have index funds... i don't think...

By funny I mean he (always) prepares to the end of the world (not coming). All his book titles on Amazon are a variation of the title 'Crisis Investing'. "...didn't fade away into irrelevance" OK. How much extra income his speculations made for you compared to a 'dumb' Permanent Portfolio ...

Full one hour presentation of maybe what he is all about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlElYCLE14s It's interesting to compare with the general view here you are supposed to have a Permanent and a Variable portfolio probably in a 1:1 ratio but how about the 3rd pillar being present with Kiyosaki:...

Basic question about stocks, dividends, brokerage accounts and taxes
Say I hold AAPL or any stock at dividend paying time on an ordinary brokerage account. Will the dividends be added as an extra cash balance to the brokerage account?
What are the tax consequences? Can I get a tax break if I do not cash it out but reinvest - in the same AAPL or any other - stock?

Are you answering to me or to @murphy_p_t ? It is totally not clear.
If you are answering to me. No, I am not concerned, I just asked a simple - and hopefully interesting - question to which your answer is not really an answer ) But thanks.

What are some good personal finance books esp. considering the UK system?

Re: Crawling Road blog post - Permanent Portfolio Performance and Historical Returns
I don't think I put Sharpe/SD in that post. I'm not a fan of Sharpe/SD as they are misleading in terms of actual risk. And mostly I don't talk much about these risk measures because they are rearward looking and sometimes project a false sense of security. Over time the common measures tend to miss...
