Re: Please Mister Custer, I Don't Wanna Go
In your last thread, you were worried about cash and bonds. Since then, it seems that you've come to terms with cash but are still nervous about bonds. One of the hardest parts of embracing the PP is learning to accept that not only is at least one of the assets always underperforming at some point...

Please Mister Custer, I Don't Wanna Go
I am getting ready to retire, and have read the Rowland and Lawson book on permanent portfolio to help me decide whether to structure my retirement money this way (4X25). The main thing that bothers me is putting 25% of my life savings into long term Treasury bonds, because when interest rates go u...

Re: Faith is believing something you know ain't true
I just simply cannot bring myself to put 50% of my assets into bonds and cash, when I know they are headed over the cliff. I wish that life and the markets were that simple. It's a shame that they are not. When I bought the book, I was hoping I'd found the answer, but I just don't trust something ...

Re: Is the PP designed to accomodate something unique in history - U.S. bankruptcy
I am new to this stuff, so please bear with me. Is it not true that running the printing presses is the same as adding water to the soup? And is it not true that interest rates are so low that they have nowhere to go but up, which means I'd have to hold my nose while putting 25% of my life savings...

bill, Are you concerned about the US government running out of US dollars, when it is literally the only source of US dollars? Or are you worried about inflation, when the inflation rate is the lowest it has been in decades? I am concerned about something like this happening: http://www.pbs.org/wgb...

Two questions about Permanent Portfolio Family of Funds
1. As we know, the permanent portfolio says to put 25% into long term bonds, and 25% into cash-like vehicles, such as T-billls. The PRPFX fund puts 45% into rough equivalents (35% into US treasury and other dollar assets, and 10% into swiss franc assets). I am trying to map PRPFX to the 25, 25...

Is the PP designed to accomodate something unique in history - U.S. bankruptcy
In their book, Rowland and Lawson say to split your assets 4 X 25, and they have a table showing the performance of such a portfolio from 1972 to 2011. Peter Schiff has a new book on the market. The title is The Real Crash, and the marquee on the top of the cover says America's Coming Bankruptcy. ...

Faith is believing something you know ain't true
The quote is from Mark Twain, but the sentiments are mine. I am new to the Permanent Portfolio, and I have just read the Rowland / Lawson book on it, but I just simply cannot bring myself to put 50% of my assets into bonds and cash, when I know they are headed over the cliff.
