Re: What's your advice for a non-PP-friendly 401(k)?
How about lobbying for a better 401K. And I agree with the suggestion to see if they have a brokerage window. If they do, then problem solved.

Re: Down 9.9% Today???
I may be missing something, but I don't see any reason to own PRPFX. Why not just hold 4 ETF's? If you are managing your funds all the time, then that is true, but what about if something happens to you? You might want something like this for a spouse or other who is not very knowledgeable with fi...

Re: Down 9.9% Today???
It depends on your broker, but should be 1-3 business days from the 31st. It should be taxable for 2013 if held in a non-IRA, 401K type account.

Re: PRPFX
I wasn't talking about true numismatic value, but rather semi-numismatic value. For example, suppose that PRPFX has purchased X oz of gold American Eagle coins each year. Often times, the actual premium paid for one year may be slightly higher or lower than other years. I bet that they don't account...

Re: PRPFX
Does anyone know how they value the gold? For example, they have a mixture of bullion and coins as I understand it. Are they valued at X oz of bullion and coins times the COMEX price of gold/oz or do they include the actual premium for the physical vs paper price? What about any semi-numismatic valu...

Is the MDY Midcap 400 SPDR too narrow?
I am finding it difficult to replicate the PP exactly as I would like inside my 401K due to lack of the right choices. Do you think that the MDY Midcap 400 SPDR would be sufficiently broad to represent the broad stock index that the PP calls for?

ZIV Inverse VIX ETN
I was just curious as to whether anyone has been including the medium term inverse VIX ZIV in their VP? It didn't come into being until 11/29/2010, so is a pretty recent development, but I could see using this ETN from time to time when volatility is down. Any opinions?

Re: The new 30 Year Apple Bonds vs Treasuries
OK, I finally got the prospectus. You are correct, the 2043 are callable: "The fixed
rate notes may be redeemed at our option, at any time in whole or from time to time in
part...."

Re: The new 30 Year Apple Bonds vs Treasuries
I only checked the 2043 bonds, but they are not callable. In this case, I have to say that I almost have more faith in Apple than the US Treasury. At least we know Apple is run by professionals rather than political appointees.

The new 30 Year Apple Bonds vs Treasuries
I don't have the prospectus yet, but according to the WSJ, the deal was expected to yield about 1 point more on the $3 billion in 30-year bonds more than comparable Treasurys bonds. I know the PP says to invest in 30 year treasuries, but wouldn't these Apple 30 year bonds be just as good if not bett...

Last Friday's 4:30 PM Treasury report & the Swiss Franc
In Friday's Treasury report release, http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/international/exchange-rate-policies/Documents/Foreign%20Exchange%20Report%20April%202013.pdf , there is a section on the Swiss Franc. The interesting part is the language that says, "...Switzerland should return to a ...

Re: Cyprus: 10% Savings confiscation
As usual, don't forget to read the small print. This isn't just about the haircut. There is also a nice healthy 500% corporate tax raise from 2.5% to 12.5% and they said the gov't will accelerate selling assets, aka privatization.

Cypress and the PP
Seeing the situation in Cypress with the up to 9.9% haircut seems to be a perfect illustration of why the PP is so good. It may turn out to be nothing, or it may be the start of a major financial downturn for a lot pf people? Gold, cash, and LTTs looking pretty good on Monday I think.

Re: Suitable Substitute for TIPS in a Variable Portfolio?
What about implementing PP as a whole across all your accounts where 401K is only a portion? You might be able to do something like have the stock portion and cash portion in 401K and keep the LTT/Gold portion in IRA or other brokerage account so that you get an acceptable PP as a whole even if you ...

Re: How important is it for gold ETF to be denominated in my local currency?
What about doing something like taking a short flight to Austria and getting a safe deposit box at Das Safe http://www.dassafe.com/. You can then buy Austrian Philharmonic gold coins at nearly any bank to store in them.

Re: PP Tweak
I wonder what everyone thinks about a slightly different tweak. The basic idea is to be a little heavier in some areas like REITS, Timber, and maybe a little MOO and/or MLPs. Right now, I am doing this via my VP, but it seems like it could work in the PP if you did something like 20% stock index fun...
