Re: TBonds saved me in 2008. Now, not sure what to do now.

Thanks snedgar. Very helpful. Harry Browne's rule #1: almost nothing turns out as expected. I guess that would apply to thinking TBonds are a lost cause at this point. Stay the course.

TBonds saved me in 2008. Now, not sure what to do now.

I was really glad I had long term TBonds in 2008. They saved my portfolio. Now it just seems like they'll never come back and the roof will finally cave in. Do I rebalance and buy some more? Or get the hell out?

Re: Which? Fidelity or Gabelli Treasury Bill fund?

The SPDR is “BIL”, one of Craig’s recommended funds. Diversify because I don’t want all my TBills in just two fund companies.

Which? Fidelity or Gabelli Treasury Bill fund?

I already use the SPDR and the iShares Tbill funds recommend in Craig's book. I want to diversify to one more. Which do you like better? The Fidelity Tbill or the Gabelli Tbill funds that he recommends? Or are they all the same? Thx!

Re: How to vote on Permanent Portfolio Proxy card?

Thanks all.  Most of my Permanent Portfolio is held personally, but I do find it convenient to have some of my funds held in in the mutual fund.  Are there any other mutual funds that you recommend that accomplishes the PP strategy in one stop shopping?

Re: How to vote on Permanent Portfolio Proxy card?

Here are the questions to be voted on for the Perm Portfolio Fund. Responses are either 'for' 'against' or 'abstain': 1. Approve a new investment advisory contract. 2A. Change the Portfolio's classification under the Investment Company Act of 1940, as amended, from "diversified" to "n...

How to vote on Permanent Portfolio Proxy card?

Anyone have any recommendations on how to vote on the proposed changes to the Perm Portfolio Funds rules?  I'd like it to remain as true to Harry Browne's original plan as possible.  I assume I should just vote 'against' on everything. Thanks.

Re: Harry Browne said rebalance as often as you like

You knew Harry Browne???  Do tell! He was truly an original thinker.  I used to wait by the mailbox for Harry Browne Special Reports, as it was the only clear thinking out there at the time.  Especially on investing.  I met him a few times. His answer to my question on this subject is quoted below. ...

Harry Browne said rebalance as often as you like

When Harry Browne was writing his newsletter, I asked him if rebalancing before the trigger was to be avoided. He said you can rebalance as often as you like, just make sure you do it at least when the triggers come in.  He pointed out that the Permanent Portfilio Fund rebalances every day as it rec...

Holding my nose and buying T Bonds

I've been using the PP strategy for a long time, and have been very happy I have.  I just rebalanced, and had to buy a boat load of T Bonds.  This goes totally against my better judgment as I can't imagine they'll do anything but crash.  Interesting to see what happens.

Gold mining mutual funds

I'd like to speculate in gold mining stocks, but would like to diversify the risk by choosing a mutual fund that invests in them. Suggestions?

What brokerage to use?

What are some recommended brokerage companies?  I have a lot of my PP at Schwab, but would like to diversify, so I don't have all eggs in that basket.  What do you guys recommend?  eTrade? Scottrade?  Others?

Gold in retirement account

I know that gold is the last PP portion to place in an IRA or defined benefit plan, but if I have some in there, I can then rebalance by selling gold without paying capital gains.  Is that correct?

Versatile Bond Fund

Harry used to recommend holding some of the cash portion in the Permanent Portfolio Family of Funds "Versatile Bond Fund."  It only invests in the highest quality corporate bonds. I have been doing that for a long time, and it has worked out.  However, I just got a letter from them that ne...

Re: Gold coin valuation for PP

I have been using Kitco's buy price at https://online.kitco.com/selling/index.html.  Is that a mistake?  It's close to the spot price.  Or is it only important that I stay consistent?

Gold coin valuation for PP

How would you recommend I value my gold Eagles and Krugerrands that I keep in my Permanent Portfolio?  Do I use the spot price, the bid price or the ask price?  My inclination is to use the bid price, because if I had to sell coins to balance the portfolio, that is the amount I would get for them. C...
