Re: Inflation Reduction Act

I took a post graduate level nuclear engineering class in college several decades ago. We studied all reactor designs as I recall, from those used in submarines to those developed for the electrical power industry. By and large, reactors are generally safe; but as someone said upstream, anything de...

Re: Inflation Reduction Act

Things might make more sense if people shed the false dichotomy of D vs R and reframe it as establishment vs non-establishment (or regime vs non-regime, elites vs non-elites, etc. as you prefer). D and R are just two wings of the same bird. I'd be surprised if there is anyone left who truly believe...

Re: Why did Pelosi cross the road?

If you are the law enforcement officer your job is to enforce the law not interpret it. That's what we have judges for who then apply common sense, special circumstances or whatever to toss, downgrade or upgrade the penalty. That's the theory anyway it's best when the system functions that way over...

In your case Pug, ....

On a personal note, you yourself seemed much more calm and reasonable several years ago. You seem very agitated/angry in your posts recently. Seems like something broke.
Was it right about the time his avatar changed? :-X

What was Domino's thinking?

How hilarious is this? Domino’s Pizza Inc.’s footprint in the home of Pizza proved to be short lived with Italians favoring local restaurants over the American version. The last of Domino’s 29 branches have closed after the company started operations in the country seven years ago. It borrowed heavi...

Re: Why did Pelosi cross the road?

Sorry, inquiring minds want to know...have either of you ever actually traveled overseas? Is this surprising to you? You are aware that if you basically travel to any 1st world country on the planet with meat from another country you could get fined or worse, right? Pug and I are taking incoming. A...

Re: Why did Pelosi cross the road?

How about Australia last year, particularly Victoria? Another example of democracy KBG? When they imprison mothers of small children that post on Facebook against the government narrative, that's fascism in my book. Not to add fuel to this fire, but it does seem like something is wrong in Australia...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

It turned out to be real meaningful. My father passed away late last year, and through the trip I was able to talk to him and see him again. That alone made it worth the psychedelic hangover the next day. Amazing stuff. That's some story! Were there any negative aspects to it? There's an increasing...

Re: Why did Pelosi cross the road?

What I do know is that if Kevin McCarthy did this, the Dems would be all up in arms...as would have been the GOP if Pelosi did this a three years ago. That probably would have been better for Biden. In the mid 90's (1994 I think), Newt Gingrich in his eternal wisdom, decided to make a trip to Taiwa...

Re: Why did Pelosi cross the road?

I always try to remind myself that I don't have access to enough information to truly know what went on behind the scenes. But this is one incident where I would bet the more you know the worse the story would be. Maybe it's better to not know. Like what if the only reason she went was to meet with ...

I have accepted that politics, and a certain view of politics will always be especially present on this forum. Even though it is primarily an investing forum, it is built around the ideas of Harry Browne. Not only was he a politician, but the ideas underlying the Permanent Portfolio have a political...

Re: Is the stick a dying art?

What I hated about my manual rental car in Italy was that reverse and 1st were the same position, but you had to push the stick in to access reverse, and a beep would sound. It was too easy to try going into R and end up in 1st. I would have way preferred it if R had it's own dedicated position, us...

Re: Is the stick a dying art?

My rental car last month was an automatic with paddle shifters. This was on the big island of Hawai'i and we had lots of steep hills and narrow winding roads. I hated it. You can't move directly from a high gear (say 5 or 7) to a low gear like 3. You have to step through the gears. Plus, you can't ...

Some cars offer both. I have a car that can be put into manual mode after which shifting happens manually using paddle shifters on the back of the steering wheel. No manually activated clutch though.

Re: Is the stick a dying art?

Am I correct in remembering that it was much more difficult to both eat and drive when driving a manual compared to an automatic? Had to keep having that right hand go to that device to change gears? Trying to use a non hand-free cell phone would be pretty hard also. Texting would be out of the que...

[ Their use of color in both shows is really good. I think the Gene scenes are all in black and white to drive home how mundane and empty his life is in comparison to how colorful it was before. A/V Club calls it monochrOmaha. Can't you just imagine Kim in her own black & white mundane existence so...

Re: Better Call Saul (Final Season)

I think the last episode was needed to remind us that Jimmy is still Saul. It's not like he's reformed during his time as Gene. There was a tiny bit of sincerity when he talked about his brother being dead. That was sad. I was surprised the whole thing was black and white. Didn't we transition "seq...

Re: Better Call Saul (Final Season)

What was going on in the wine scene with Gus? Why did he abruptly get up and leave when the manager left to get the bottle to show him? I have one theory but not sure about it.
Will that be the last we see of him if the prequel is now done?

Re: Better Call Saul (Final Season)

I keep wondering how on earth Gus constructed a subterranean tunnel between two single family homes in secret.

Loved how all the intricate details implicating Nacho in the hacienda hit came together to throw Eladio off Gus' trail.

Re: Is the stick a dying art?

Yeah, I think it's dying rapidly in the U.S. With the integration of engine controls with transmission controls, an automatic provides better fuel economy and performance. It's tough to argue for manual trans from any practical viewpoint. From a pure performance standpoint, I've heard that the tech...

Is the stick a dying art?

I was traveling in the EU recently, and I went to rent a car in France. I ended up with a fun little 5 speed Citroen. The guy at the rental place asked me three times if I was okay with a stick aka standard transmission. I asked him why he was going out of his way to confirm it. He told me most Amer...

An indie filmmaker made a documentary about Sriracha some time back. I'll have to search it out. Probably an interesting story.
I like the Huy Fong mainstay, but IMO the original Thai is way better, especially on something like a burger.

Sriracha sauce and mayo is an excellent combination. That is all. Goodnight. Ok, I'll play... Soy sauce and Miracle Whip on spring rolls is also an excellent combo. OMFG that sounds good. I'ma try that. Thanks, kbg! More MW if you like sweet, more soy if you like salty…mess around with the proporti...
